LA Baby...yeah!

As Los Angeles was purely a 24hr transit stop before flying to New Zealand, we didn't know how much of the city we would see - surprisingly we managed quite a few of the sights. We touched down around 3pm local time and after collecting our luggage we headed to our hotel situated only minutes from the arrivals hall. For those of you who have never been to LAX airport, the locality of it and the ease in which you can pass through customs and check-in, make it probably the most user friendly ai...

Arrived safe & sound with no travel drama's that we usually have on any flights. Crashed for a few hours then headed out to eat at local shops. Spend the next couple of days doing work, emails, GB finishing his PPTs for talks. Walked around local area, not much happening here tho.

Took a tram out to Manhattan Beach Pier for a yummy italian meal. On the way back the tram broke down. Stop laughing, yes it is typical for us. Only had to wait a short while for the next tram to arrive.<...

And, They're Off!

I can tell that it has been a little while since I was a frequent flier. Whereas I used to manage my belongings going through security with ease, and may I say, a little bit of grace--today I looked like Ma came off the farm and headed for the big city! I bumbled my way through, and only had to sacrifice the indignity of a pat down. We treated ourselves to first class seats, which was a joy. At least, it was a joy after I had to shush to two young men sitting behind us who were swearing like ...

Layover in LA

I found out almost a month ago that my trip had a hiccup in it. For some reason that I still cannot explain China Eastern canceled my June 1 flight from LAX to Beijing. They told me they would give me a hotel voucher to stay in LA and fly out on June 2. I expected Motel 6 but instead was surprised to discover it was the Sheraton at the Airport. Nice!!! Plus - my favorite - food vouchers!!!!!!! You think I can order some Chinese food?

I arrived at LAX as scheduled and went over to the ...

Long day, great room

After a long day of flying, we were warmly welcomed by the Sheraton Gateway Hotel staff. After a hot shower I was ready for a late bite to eat and a few cold drinks. Karen set up the internet WiFi and stayed in the room. I ran into one of the guys from the flight that lives on an island of Roatan, off of the coast of Honduras. He was dropping of his daughters and making the return trip back the same day.

After a few cocktails, some barbecue chicken pizza, and some good international co...

5 star quality for a deep discount!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was most pleased with my stay here for one night from 09/06 through 09/07. I booked the room through priceline for $45/night and received an out of this world bargain upon arrival. The location was prime and the luxuries/amenities were on another scale. We had the good fortune of obtaining a room on the 12th floor facing the south runway of LAX(I suggest you do the same). Watching the air traffic at the worlds third busiest airport is quite a spectacle to say the very least. The room had to be one of the best I have ever stayed in, in my entire life(and I have been in many rooms). The bed was so plush and immaculate that I had no problems whatsoever. At some point, I thought I was either dreaming or thinking that priceline made a mistake because there was no way I could get a room similar to this for so dirt cheap. The same hotel, on the same date on hotels was quoted at over $200! The staff was quite friendly and the pool/hot tub were very warm and inviting. We did not try their restaurant or fitness area, but I am most confident it was of the highest quality based on appearance and aesthetics. This establishment should definetely be awarded a five star rating as opposed to priceline's three stars. Parking was a bit of a hassle, but well worth it at the end. I would certainly exercise the option of lodging here again if the opportunity presented itself...ANYDAY! Thank you...

Nice and Easy

What a great hotel, We recently traveled to LA and stayed at the Sheraton Gateway. What was really great about this hotel was that the staff were extremely kind and accomondating which made our visit that much more memorable. Loved it!

Sheraton LAX

We stayed here at the LAX Sheraton Gateway, last September 2003 for one night. It was just for the night, as we were off to Hong Kong, the next morning on United.

The hotel was in good shape and we had a high floor facing the South runways, 25L and 25R at LAX. From our view, it was one take-off after another, especially late in the evening, when you have all those 747-400s and 777s departing on International flights. Great view and not too much noise from the airport.

Food service in the main restaurant was good. It was either that or room service, and where do you go for dinner in the airport area? The gift shop was nice, if you needed something, perhaps a coca cola or some chips to take up to your room.

The lady working the gift shop needs a lesson in greeting people and not being so up tight, like you are in there to steal an item. The staff was good, however, again they need a little help in being more welcoming.

Would we stay here again? I think so, great location and good shuttle service into LAX. If you enjoy watching the wide bodies take-off and land, this is the place. Be sure to ask for a high floor facing the South runways. If you face the North, you will see many jumbos landing.

Los Angeles airport and hotel

Excellent hotel with fab beds. Room very good for our two night stay. Hotel restaurant staff very friendly. Accessibility to shopping quite difficult but one or two really good malls a taxi ride away.

LA Airport the pits. Desperately needs updating. Absolute chaos in terminals and security over the top especially compared with other major airports in the world. Fast food outlets quite appalling.

Ripped off

from Executivetravel
First let me say the room was great...The staff at reception were poor, long time to check in and didnt care about problems, they mainly care about flight crews, but I guess thats to be expected, I got a good rate at starwood website, (I THOUGHT) The deal was you got the room for $59 on the week-end, if you paid by mastercard. I did but did not get the price advertised, I spendt hours on the phone to starwood, basically BAD LUCK. SO take care of those SO CALLED SPECIALS, The hotel itself was good, the cleaning staff are amazing, the other management could use a training session. SO you balance it up, I would probab;ly stay again, because the hotel building was good and I dont really care that the staff are rude. But take note when booking specials on STARWOOD WEBSITE, if something goes wrong, NOBODY cares. It was not the money but the principle that annoyed me.

A great hotel

A very nice airport hotel. It is very clean, modern and despite being next to the airport, very quite. The rooms are tastefully done, all the amenities one would expect. Your stay at this hotel will be a good experience.

Great hotel ofr a nice price

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in this hotel 3 nights August 2003 with 2 children, very friendly staff, the food was great and contrary to earlier reviews not really overpriced; we ate with the 4 of us for $ 80,- (including drinks !). Nice pool too and quiet rooms, we did not feel unsafe in the surroundings of the hotel though there was not much to do (what can you expect so close to an airport), but we had a car and drove around LA without any problems, it took about half an hour to downtown and Universal and about 20 minutes to Venice. Would recommend it to anybody (if you have a car at your disposal). We booked via Expedia for a rate of $ 55,- a night for the 4 of us which is rediculously low for ths hotel.

Very nice affordable hotel

This hotel is very nice and clean. Only 5 minutes away from LAX. Staff very helpful, shuttle was great. Rooms clean and QUIET (being so close to airport). Giftshop over priced. Room service food okay. Taxi service quick and efficient, knowledgable. Would recommend.

Beware non existant weekend specials

from A TripAdvisor Member
We found our preferred hotel booked and traveled up the street to the Sheraton 4 Points LAX. They advertised an "endless weekend" rate of $59/nite. Problem was, it didn't exist. The rate is $80-90/nite. I wouldn't have minded but the room was a disaster. Burn holes the size of your fist on the bedspread. Large portions of the bathroom ceiling had lost the plaster. Not only did the room reek but the hallways as well. Great employees and good room service just couldn't compensate for that room.

Great hotel, nice staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
It is not brand new but looks great. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are well equipped. The showers are glorious. The bed sheets feel silky and smell clean.

My room was cleaned though I thought I had put "Do Not Disturb" sign up. The cleaning staff spoke Spanish and I actually enticed a 5 minute back rub due to a pulled muscle from traveling, and I left a $20 tip! I felt like Cleopatra.

I walked in in shambles, walked out a happy camper.
