Día 8: Las Vegas-San Francisco

A travel blog entry by cpeiro

First impressions on boarding the big **** QANTAS A380 are, in fact, a wee bit disappointing. The ubiquitous three-four-three seating arrangement? check. The contemporary yet still very corporate plastic smiled air stewards? The ever shrinking care package on your seat to ensure you arrive at your minty breath freshest? check and check.

Big city. Bright Lights. Buses, cars, trucks, people. Shopping Malls, Takeaway, restaurants, taxis. I live in a city. My city awakens me at 3am with the sound of a wheelie bin full of bottles being unceremoniously poured into the back of a recycling truck. My city shakes me to the bone every time a bus goes past or makes me unconsciously pause my …

Close to the Wharf, but don't drive

    from anonymous

I enjoyed the location, which is only 2 blocks from Pier 39. It was pretty quiet and the hotel staff was very helpful. If you can help it, don't rent a car. The transit system is excellent and parking at the hotel was $30.00 per day. There are better rates if you look around. A place right on the wharf was only $12.00 per day, but I didn't see it until our last night. Another parking lot about 7 blocks away showed rates of $8.00 per day. Also, try Priceline.com, I got a great rate at this hotel and saved a lot of $$$ from what other people paid.

    Drab Drab Drab

    from anonymous

Great location, which is this hotels saving grace. We used the telephone twice to check on reservations later in our vacation and were charged $48!!!!! The bar prices were high. The whole hotel had a dark and unfriendly feel to it. My advice there must be many better hotels in San Francisco. We will not be staying there in the future.

    Great Location!

My husband and I stayed here Jul 02 for 4 nights. We had never been to San Francisco before. The room was nice and clean. The bar was cozy and the fireplace added a nice touch. Conceirge was the best I have ever seen. They were so helpful in all of the dinner reservations we made and suggested some fabulous places to dine and Just in case you want to know where: (Hanna Zen sushi, Scomos at the wharf, Top of the Tower, at the top of the Bank of America building downtown #1 views in town). Fishermans Wharf was in walking distance which was real nice because most all other hotels are further away. The hotel has a restaurant that was good as well as some others (IHOP right across street). Would reccomend this hotel we had a pleasant stay!

    In need of a make-over.....

    from AntG

I stayed here mid-April with my family for 3 nights as part of a multi-centre holiday (LA/Hawaii/San Fran). It is hard to describe this hotel - its best feature is that it is located close to Pier 39! Several negatives including drab/old-feeling room - tiny bathroom - extremely uncomfortable bed - noisy. When we arrived by taxi there was no-one in the lobby area so I grabbed a porter's trolley and loaded it up myself, checked in and then pushed the trolley myself to the room - no member of staff thought to stop me and ask if I needed help.We stayed in 3 hotels on our trip, visited lots of places and always were met with fantastic service - except for here. Only stay here if everywhere else is full up.

    Avoid this one!

    (1) Hotel would charge you room tax for Starwood members despite Starwood discount on waving the tax(2) No refrigirators in rooms although Starwood reservations explicitly include the refrigirator(3) No continental breakfast either. Starwood reservations however says otherwise(4) Valet dented my car. And the valet charge is $30/per day.(5) Unfriendly bell boys. Would not help you put the luggage in the car. Bell boy would also intentionally give wrong directions to places you want to go. Sounds too bad to be true, but that's what happened to me.

    Good hotel, great tourist location

    from anonymous

Good hotel, great tourist location! Near all Fisherman's Wharf attractions and convenient to city Muni (transit) system. Don't expect bay views! Restaurant prices high, but many nearby alternatives.

Good value if you can find a low rate

    from anonymous

Hotel was good for the price $99.00 special but I wouldn't pay more then that. Front Desk and Valet were unimpressive (surprising given the 30.00 parking fee). Rooms were large for fishermans wharf area but dark, bathroom was tiny. There was street noise but you will get that at any hotel in this area.

    Good hotel in Wharf area

    from anonymous

Watched the hotel web site. Paid $164 for Club level, 4th floor. Was charged $30 for parking. Club level has good comp breakfast. Hotel is one of the closet to Pier 39 area. Concierge, Chris, was very helpful. View was not special.

    Avoid the pool

A rather gloomy hotel in need of refurbishment. We would have been better in the city centre.

Did not enjoy my stay here

    from anonymous

I recently spent 3 nights in this hotel. The accomadations were not great and on the first floor the street noise was awful. When I requested they change our room I was brushed off. The food and accomadations where extremly overpriced. I would not recommend this hotel.
