Today we went to Universal Studios.
We did a tour of the backlot first - here we saw where they make some TV shows and movies.
I went on the Jurassic Park ride which is a bit scarey because it had a big drop-off.
It was hot (about 37-38 Celcius - JB) so they had a few big fans with mist blowing off them.
We saw …
Yesterday we arrived in Santa Monica (LA).
We flew with Virgin Australia on a Boeing 777. It took 16 hours to get here.
We had a look at the Santa Monica Pier and went down to the beach.
- a bendy bus
- a green and white taxi
- a ferris wheel
- a tandem bicycle
- a trapeze
Yesterday we went for a walk around Santa Monica.
I got a Granita which is a crushed ice drink - it was very blue.
We went to look for shoes and mum got 3 pairs of shoes!
I went to look at hats but I did not buy any shoes at the shoe shop and I did not buy any hats.
In the evening we went out for dinner and I got an ice-cream.
we had an early start to the day this morning, bags out and ready to be picked up by 7am and on the bus by 8am, so being me, i had every thing sorted the nite before so no great panic in the morning and we had a nice breakfast not rushed then on the bus and off we go. our first stop was one and a half hours up the road on the way to los angeles at …
Our last stop before heading home is Santa Monica which is a beach side city about 40k west of Los Angeles. The trip from San Francisco to LA was our worst so far. Our 9.25am flight was cancelled because of mechanical problems and our rescheduled flight for 11.40am did not get away until 3.30pm because of bad weather in LA so the day …

Historical Traveler Reviews Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica
Four Points is great!!!
Four Points was a great place to stay! My fiance and I loved the courteous staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. The neighborhood is not bad although I can see why would feel slightly uneasy walking around there at night. The location is great: the beach, Third Street Promenade, and Santa Monica pier are all a great walk away from the hotel. But I do warn people with children that it may be a little too far of a walk. One of the best features of the hotel is the free parking. One of the worst features is the pool. It's too small! But we didn't have to worry about it because we ended up spending most of our time on the beach. The view from our room was magnificent! The city and the partial ocean view gave us the best of both worlds...and we had a standard room! We highly recommend this hotel!!!
Lovely hotel but poor location
I agree with the previous review. This was our first time in LA and I thought a beach location would be relaxing after a busy day sightseeing. However it took us 50 min to reach Disney and 25/30 min to reach Hollywood and Universal. It was also too far to walk with our 3 children at night to the pier or 3rd Street. The area around the hotel isn't very pleasant and we didn't feel comfortable walking at night.
Still during the day it was fine to walk to the beach. The hotel itself was great, clean with all the amenities we needed and the staff were helpful. The problem with LA is that the attractions are all spread out so there probably isn't an ideal place to stay. We did have a fantastic holiday as we also stayed in San Diego, Monterey and San Fransisco
Location not great.
This was our first trip to LA and were advised to stay in Santa Monica.
We found it too far out (a) for the LA tours and (b) from Santa Monica itself. We found it quite a long walk to 3rd Street Promenade, Pier and Santa Monica Place where we spent most evenings. In fact we walked only once and then drove in for the remainder of our stay. The children found it too far to walk at the end of the day. Santa Monica is lovely and we are glad we visited but for our next visit to LA we would stay in the Hollywood Roosevelt to get more of a feel of the city and to be conveniently located for tours. Rooms large and clean but lost points on location.
Basic but pleasant
We stayed here late in 2001; the hotel seems popular with UK aircrews who love its handy location to the coast and good shopping. We found the facilities acceptable, if fairly basic, the staff pleasant and helpful, and the rooms clean and comfortable if a little worn - makeover time can't be too far off. Noisy a/c was really our only complaint. Try for an ocean-facing room - quieter than those facing busy Pico Blvd but note that the neighborhood alleys below are none too pretty and places like 3rd Street Promenade are several long blocks away; you might feel a bit nervous coming back at night - uphill. On the other hand, there are some nice restaurants and shops on Main Street; it doesn't all happen north of the freeway. The beach and pier are an easy walk awy and tons of free parking, rare in Santa Monica, is a real bonus.
Had a great time
I really enjoyed my stay at the four points. I found that it was in an ideal location for travelling to the beachand to the shopping area in Santa Monica. The room we had backed onto another set of rooms with a pool and jacuzzi outside. Nice small bar downstairs, with outdoor swimming (heated!) and jacuzzi. Pity the piano downstairs was not working, they should get someone onto that. overall I thought it was a clean, spacious, friendly hotel. In an Ideal location to venture out.
Make sure you go to Harvelles Blues club while you're there - You'll LOVE IT!!!
Not as good as it sounds
This hotel sounded good based on reviewing this and other websites. Here's what convinced me to book it:1. Low rate from a travel website ($124/nite) for the Memorial Day weekend 2003. 2. In Santa Monica, near the beach. 3. Free parking (very hard to come by in Santa Monica - other nearby hotels were charging $18+ per night). Make sure you check into this when you book in Santa Monica...or anywhere in LA. 4. Pictures seemed nice (our room was described to have a balcony with a partial ocean view). 5. It was a Sheraton (can't go wrong there, right?)Here's what we found during our stay: 1. The room was on the the 3rd floor directly above the lobby driveway and "no other rooms were available". 2. The "deluxe partial ocean view rooms" all face the city and a main street (Pico Blvd), which is fairly noisy due to constantly passing buses. We had to keep the fan on to drown out the noise (noise level was fine after that). We did see a slight sliver of the ocean, but nothing like what you would expect when you hear the words "ocean view". If you stay here, I suggest requesting a room on an upper floor. 3. The room seemed nice in pictures, but the general feeling or energy of it was not very good. It felt dank, and dirty (it wasn't actually dirty, but I've stayed in plenty of hotels that feel alive and clean and airy...this wasn't). It was a basic hotel room, nothing special. 3. The hotel is located across the street from a high school on a fairly busy street. So, if you want cute, quaint, and quiet in a cafe and flower shop neighborhood, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Also, It seems the "action" in Santa Monica is more north of highway 10, whereas this hotel is south of that. The neighborhood seems more "sprawlish" south of HWY 10. 4. The hotel staff is fairly helpfull and quickly responded to our needs (extra blankets, etc.). Nice people. 5. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't stay here. I would chose a hotel in West Hollywood (a more central locatiota Monica when I needed to. 6. Last item...It's typically foggy/cloudy near the beach. So, if you want sun, I would suggest staying at a hotel more inland (West Hollywood, Bev Hills - don't let "Bev Hills" fool you, you can find cheap rates for these hotels and it's a cleaner neighborhood). Good luck!
Great Hotel in Santa Monica, CA
I stayed here for a week in March 2003. Extremely nice hotel and the only hotel that still has FREE PARKING! (saves you about $15.00 per day in LA!)Rooms are nice and views are great of the ocean and Santa Monica Pier! Staff is very pleasant and helpful. I will return.....
Great from my viewpoint
Very nice rooms that overlook either city of LA, or ocean view. My second stay. Cannot beat a balcany room service meal by a sun setting over Santa Monica Bay. Outstanding room service, excellent restaurant, and very friendly and helpful staff. Going again next year!
I stayed in this hotel 2 summers ago and we booked our holiday through Virgin Holidays and it being a Sheraton hotel you would expect a high standard. Certainly the picture of the room in the brochure is not at all like the room we got. I have a starwood guest card and was told we would get an upgraded room. The room we got was very dark, the furnishings grubby, the bathroom needed renovated and the tv did not have on demand movies as stated in the brochure. We complained and were told they did not have another room available at that time that we would have to wait. We went out and came back later on and were offered another room - this was not much better and was small with not much room for the cot we required. Eventually the next day after complaining to the virgin rep we were given another room with a view which I was allowed to look at first. Only thing - pity about some building work being carried out nearby. Location is good but hotel is very disappointing and not up to usual Sheraton standard for the price.
WE stayed at your Hotel the night of 7/18/02. Our room was DIRTY. The AC DID NOT WORK, it was hot and uncomforable. WE had asked for a rollaway bed. WE gor the rollaway bed, we got the bed but the room was so small we not sure where we were suposed to put it. So one of companions, rolled the bed onto the balcony. SHE HAD to sleep OUTSIDE because there was no room in the room for the rollaway.
For a Sheraton the room was substandard. We were very disapointed. I was also snapped at by the desk clerk when checking in.
We go to Hotels that have good reputations of good service to be treated well not to be snapped at and stay in substandard rooms.
