No.15 Section 1, Renmin Middle Road Chengdu, Sichuan, China, 28-8676-8999
As we flew over the ice caps of the North Pole we were wondering what if we landed here? After 13 hours of flying we could see China's Great wall stretching miles across mountain tops. Eventually to our destination Chengdu. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province and the political, economical, and cultural center of Southwest China. With a history of more than 2,300 years, it is one of the most famous historical and cultural cities in China. Alex and I traveled to Chengdu along with four o...

... Satomi fell asleep for a while.
At 6:00 we headed downstairs to get on the bus again – at least they brought the bus, I’m pretty sure Li laoshi originally said we had to find our own way there – and it took us to the main campus, from which the restaurant was only a short walk. It was a kind of odd restaurant, since the dishes were served buffet style. I guess that makes sense for the number of people we had, probably near 100. There was ...
... was hoisted on the remnant. Hu, who later placed a white chrysanthemum for the dead, expressed condolences to the victims in the May 12 Sichuan earthquake and to those who sacrificed their lives during the quake relief. The grief was felt all over China. About 2,000 kilometers away on the Tian'anmen Square in the heart of Beijing, thousands of people stood in silence for three minutes, before someone started to sing the national anthem. More people soon joined in the chorus. Then ...
Chengdu, Sichuan, China happysheep... be described as a candy store for tech people. Just being in there made me want to build a computer. I think it was 7 floors filled to bursting with technology things. Computers, laptops, cameras, speakers, cds, dvds, etc, everything was there. I ended up getting a 2000(something) RMB translator for like 1550RMB which sounds like a lot of money but it is really like 200 USD for a normally 300 USD translator. The best part? I has english menus. Oh so nice! I've been playing with ...
Chengdu, China bambbles... mountains and hunt for the meat and find the vegetables growing wildly. We weren't overly convinced that this was entirely true, but it was an excellent meal. To get to the restaurant we had to go down a bumpy dirt road where we eventually got to a parking area that had a set of steps going up a hill. Everything was overgrown and the whole area smelled like a toilet. We were told that this place was where a lot of the government ...
Chengdu, Sichuan, China tomlacey... Xindu is basically a much smaller, greener, and cleaner version of Chengdu. I parked the bike and walked around... I'm going to have to get used to all the staring. It's actually not so bad; it's a nice change from being invisible in America. The main attraction in Xindu is the BaoGuang Monastery, a functioning Daoist monastery first built in 741 AD, destroyed during a war at the end of the Qing ...
Chengdu, Sichuan, China throwerw... of interest. The first hall seemed to be a collection of jade ritual objects, as can be seen in every single museum you visit in the country, some battered bronze wear and enormous amounts of broken pottery. I felt some imagination had gone into the reconstruction of the vessels. Occasionally, with only a few base fragments present, they had filled in the significant amount of blanks and created an entire pot from pure guesswork. The labelling of a couple of other exhibits had ...
Chengdu, China mrconfused... something that requires a lot of attention and being careful. I'm not so good at calligraphy, but neither are other people. Cooking is kind of fun because we get to eat the food we make, and the general manager of a nice restaurant judges it like 4.7 or 5.0 (with 5 being the highest). Literature is kind of fun sometimes, but generally boring. Last week we went to a tea house and just chatted about what we read. Next week ...
