Our Day in the Country

... an area about 5 minutes outside of town that she takes the dogs to. It is a huge farm and there is a road that winds all the way around it. It took about an hour to walk the length of the road. The dogs love it. It was a bit chilly, especially when the wind was blowing. Conrad had to stop and feed some cows. It was fun to play with the dogs.

When we got back to the car, we went to see a waterfall. It was a ...

City in the trees

Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.

Luxembourg on Bikes!

... Roman ruins and the churches up close. Trier was very nice and I love the feeling there, the Roman baths were also really cool to see. We also had a great dinner in the main square of town. I had Pepper Steak and spetzlah. It was so good. The seats outside were great and I was able to people watch and really just embrace in the culture. Plus a little wine probe, wine tasting, helped a lot.

Visiting the homeland!

On Thursday I got up and walked the city of Speicher and looked at the whole town, it really isn't that big at all. It is a small city and most people either work on the Air Force Base or they drive to Bitburg or Trier to work. Anyways it was nice to see the small city and where my parents lived for a few years. After I was finished walking Richard and I went onto the base to look around ...

Friends of the Family to pick me up!

At last I finally arrive in Trier and meet up with Maureen and Richard. They are old friends of my parents and have agreed to put me up for the next few nights. They recognized me at once saying I look like my parents, of course I smiled and said you don't have to be mean. HAHA. Well after we got in the car we went to the top hill of Trier were we could see all ...

... furnished as they had been for the last 700 years or so. This castle looked more comfortable and livable than many other old castles that we have seen. I mean these people installed toilets, 20 of them, in their rooms. They had lots of fireplaces to keep the place warm in winter. The Elz family may have been a little short of Versailles-style ceremonial rooms, but they had a place that one might actually care to live in.

... around the old fortifications and an old abbey, saw an abstract art and sculpture exhibit, walked around the pedestrian district in the Haute Ville and did some shopping, saw a carnival, and ate some cheese (although not Luxembourg cheese - apparently there's nothing called that here). So, on to what I did today: as many of you know, I'm a huge fan of the Amazing Race. I've been having many of my own Amazing Race moments on this trip. Mostly, this involves me stumbling ...

The 6 Nations Rugby tournament matches were beginning and we went to watch England and Italy. We also hooked up with some of Speedy and Kathy's friends, F.A, Ken, Neil and others. A great afternoon, England won!! and we watched part of the next match before heading for dinner. We had dinner at a Balkan (Yugoslavian ...

Creating MY Day!

... manoeuvring in traffic and makes the bike easier to park. I have also learned that my cycling gear is waterproof, but it's the inside layer and not the outside. So don't keep my passport in the outside pocket. I have noticed that even though I speak French and English, and have all my life, the English in the U.K and the French in France have different expressions to say the same thing. We speak the same language, the underlying form, but the words themselves, form, are ...

... our five glasses to the bar and get 5 euro back, which made me happy. Spain won, and there was a huge celebration. People got up on the stage and started dancing. They had their shirts off (including the women), and just had their bodies painted like the Spanish flag. They were doing some fire breathing and throwing some balls around on strings, some that were lit on fire. It was weird. We then went home to leave for Strasbourg tomorrow.
