I began yesterday by traveling to Hong Kong's most picturesque spot, Victoria Peak. A short ferry across from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island by the ancient Star Ferry, left me beneath Hong Kong's massive skyline. In the midst of the city is the famous Peak Tram, which takes visitors to Victoria Peak. A steep climb up the jungle like hillside, brought me to the peak. The peak offers a 360 degree view of Hong Kong and the surrounding Islands. I spent most of the day walking around the peak ...

... it today. There is no iconic buildings and most of the high rise are apartment block. Don’t get me wrong, the view was still nice and well worth the trip up there. I went up there late afternoon to catch the sunset have the night view.
Before that I visited the Bank of China viewing platform on floor 43. It’s a free view over HK harbour and Kowloon on the other side of the river, so might as well take it! ...

... big, so grand and so pointless to me... - going to Starbucks & Pret where mom was happy to have "familiar" food and drink - mom calling Oleg "old goat" - visiting Lamma Island - beautiful nature, beautiful views, fairly steep walk across the island and cold beer and mango island at the end of it - tranquility and peacefulness of Hong Kong park among massive towers and financial buildings overall, i'm really glad we did it. it wasn't a walk in HK park, but it was never supposed to be. ...

... that I am living in an apartment off campus I need to present the lease agreement. WHAT?!

Poor Mr. Jiang, my neighbor across the hallway and part of security. He had to meet us at the police department with a copy of the lease agreement. So another 30 minutes, he shows up with the documents. Ten minutes after that we are told that we need the telephone number of the owner of the building. OMG are they kidding me? ... tram up to Victoria Peak, we passed a cemetery where people started taking photos. Our tour guide noticed straight away and mentioned that it's not customary to take photos of cemeteries in Hong Kong. She then explained that this particular cemetery was a permanent one, but that many cemeteries in Hong Kong are temporary - the body is buried for seven years (seven being their lucky number) and then it is dug up and prepared for cremation.
