... I saw market stall after market stall of what I thought were incense sticks. It turned out to be fireworks. A popular belief in China is that if you throw fireworks and explosives onto a bonfire at a temple, you will receive good fortune for the near future. The further one can throw, the more good fortune one would receive. It certainly explains why I keep getting woken by firecrackers at 5:00 in the morning every so often.
