... the foot of the Italian mainland clearly, amazing. After a lovely lunch, we took the cable car back down to the coast and a taxi home, as it was siesta time, so no bus for a couple of hours. We rested up for tea, which as usual was terrific, especially a mussel and clam dish in a seafood broth which was to die for! We go our separate ways tomorrow, the Mossops to Positano, and us to Venice, both of us flying out within 10 minutes of each other. Until ...
After a good nights sleep and a full breakfast, we were well fuelled for our trip to Palermo, which we was 80kms from where we were staying. Uneventful drive until we hit the town itself. Wow, it is hard to get around with numerous one ways streets. We finished down near the sea and stopped to get out a stretch our legs. It would have been hard to drive around Palermo, so kudos to Neil! Whilst we were stretching the legs a bloke called Christian who had a tuk tuk got talking ...
... the coastal road to Cefalu for around 15 kms which was very scenic. Got to Cefalu. Drove down a narrow road to a dead end. Managed to turn around and get back after a few hairy moments. But worse was to come. We went around the side of a mountain to find old Cefalu. Thought we would continue and we did taking no notice of signs in Italian we did not understand!. ... in making visibility hard. It was also very very very cold, close to zero...unbelievably given it was 32 down at sea level only some 15 minutes away! I am glad we went up, as this volcano is such an important feature and part of Sicily. Back to Taormina for some tea, before onto the Villa. Off to the north part of the island tomorrow, so probably no blog tomorrow,as we may stay overnight up there. ...
... cakes (some of which went back to the ship with us). At around 4pm some of the clothing shops opened and restaurants were getting ready for dinner - what a shame, we had to get back to the ship.
There was a hop-on-hop-off bus that operated all day. For souvenir collectors there were plenty of vendors at the port. We bought a magnet.
