Good budget hotel, would stay here again

    from

This is a really good hotel, based near a train station, a few metro stops from the city. Good things about the Silver - large clean rooms, kitchenette in room, great service (maids and front desk staff), near the metro, cheap, huge fantastic buffet breakfast for a good price, free internet in the lobby, very security conscious. But it does have it's bad parts as well - noise between rooms can get quite loud, it didn't really seem near anything (i.e. Restaurants), could take a while for hot water to come through to the shower, bath was incredibly small. In my opinion, the pros certainly outweigh the cons, and I would consider staying at the Silver again. We found the location good (as users of the metro) and had most of our meals in the city. A good budget hotel.

    Dumpy Hotel

    from

My husband and I just returned from Spain. We originally booked this hotel for three nights but after the first night we checked out early. I was really disappointed especially after all the great reviews I read before we left. The hotel has no redeeming qualities except for the free internet service in the lobby, the friendly staff, and the easy cancellation policy. The room we stayed in was so depressing. The beds were uncomfortable and old. The curtains and bedspread were musty and shabby. The bathroom was extremely small and the window inside the bathroom looked into the bathroom next door - not much privacy. I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

    Another satisfied customer

    from

I can only agree with earlier reviews - you can't beat this place for value. Friendly, helpful staff and functional and clean rooms. Rooms on the 5th and 6th floor (with balconies) are newly remodeled and really nice. We stayed in some of the rooms on the lower levels (5th and 6th were booked already) which while showing their age, were still comfortable and clean. Noticed they were working in some rooms, so hopefully even these rooms will be remodeled soon. The location is great, the metro is a stones throw away and taxi are relatively cheap in Barcelona anyways. We usually walked, most of the major attractions are only 20 to 30 minutes walking distance and their are enough sights and shops along the way to even keep the kids interested. The staff at the front desk made several recommendations to us about places to eat and all of them were great.

    Silver? more like gold!

    from

2 mid-aged American moms were treated with attention & kindness during our stay. the room with the kitchenette and a window was exactly what we needed to save money on food. everything in the room was placed very accessibly and efficiently. all was clean & had extra soaps (even for dishs), towels, bev packs, shampoo, etc. we got any needed items (iron, blowdryer) as soon as we called down for them. one of the best things is it's location! the metro is 1 short block away. try the restaurant around the corner call MEDULIO run by the artist Jose Luis Lopez; incredible seafood dishs & wine lists. thanx to all who wrote in & let us know about this place! we too HIGHLY recommend it , esp. for the value>!

    Friendly, well located hotel.

    from

We used the Aparthotel Silver as a base for a short city break to Barcelona. The location was excellent, just across from the Fontana metro station, off Paseo de Gracia. It is ideally situated for the major sites of interest, but slightly off from the bustle and noise of the main tourist route. There are lots of excellent eating places in the area, as well as a large assortment of shops, from the expensive to market stalls. Go down a side street and you find the real Barcelona. The staff at the hotel were friendly and polite, and very willing to assist in any way they could (ringing restaurants for us, providing bottle opener etc). The rooms were fine, but the bathroom was a little cramped. It was very useful having a kitchenette, although the room reminded me of a student room! Our room had an internal window only (guess that was why it was so reasonable), but it was not a problem in any way.The hotel breakfast was good, and the waitress kept the coffee coming.I would certainly stay there again.

    Loved it!

We absolutely loved it..great location, friendly staff, great olives and cava at 11 oclock at night at the front desk....loved it!

The best accommodation of our mini Europe trip

    from

My boyfriend and I stayed at Aparthotel Silver in September for 4 days. This was the first leg of a mini European trip across Spain, Italy and France and I have to say that of all five of our accommodations, this was easily the most enjoyable stay. Firstly, the hotel is situated about a 20 min. walk from La Ramblas, along scenic Place de Gracia and into Gran de Gracia. Alternatively, the Fontana Metro Station is less than 2 mins from the hotel! The reception staff were most welcoming and genuinely personable. There were three different standards of rooms: terrace; courtyard view; and internal. We opted for the courtyard view because we didn't feel we would utilise the terrace and the internal rooms consist of a window facing an interior wall...which could be fine if you are only using the room as literally somewhere to sleep. Our room had a kitchenette, neatly hidden behind louvered doors. As we were on a budget, we found this indispensable as we were able to organise our own breakfast when we wanted. The hotel could be viewed as basic to standard equipped, but just ask at reception for anything from an umbrella to an iron or hairdryer and they can provide you with them, along with a smile! The hotel was also equipped with a lift. We really enjoyed this place and decided that when we return to Barcelona we will definitely be staying here again as it was very reasonably priced, relative to other Barcelona hotels; it was so convenient to city centre and other touristic sights such as Gaudi's Familie de Sagreda (a Gaudi building actually stands to the rear of the hotel, down a side street coming from Fontana - you will easily notice it as you pass the lane!); and the staff's enthusiasm all added to the fantastic time we experienced during our stay in Barcelona.

Look no further! Great Place to stay!!

    from

Before we went to Barcelona, I looked everywhere for a well-priced, comfortable hotel. Most of the ones I found were very pricey. Although I dont mind paying the price, we usually spend very little time in a hotel, while visiting a city for the first time. My wife and I spend 4 nights at Hotel Silver in the beginning of November 03. The hotel is centrally located. Just a 2 minute walk from the Fontana Metro station (PS. If you are planning to spend some time in Barcelona, the metro is the best way to go! Clean, new and safe). We opted for the room with the terrace that had a table and a few chairs!. Great! (The hotel is located centrally so dont expect to see ocean views from your terrace.) Here is my overall rating:Welcoming staff: Very friendly, very personable!Lobby: Perfect size for the hotel. Internet access available in the lobby. Room Appointments: Very well done. Our room had a double bed, a TV, a couch, small tables, a small kitchenette area. Nicely painted and appointed.Bathroom: Our bathroom was separated in 3 smaller areas: full size bathtub, an area with the sink and a separate area with a toilet. All three areas where part of the bathroom, but each one had its own door including a door that closed the bathroom from the rest of the living area! Very cool. Miscellaneous: The room had a small TV with all the local channels and a few in English as well as a small stereo (AIWA I believe) with a CD and CDR-W capabilities, with long enough cables that one of the speakers could be brought out to the terrace. After a long day walking around Barcelona, It was great to get back to the hotel, put some music on the CD player and walk out to the terrace for some relaxation! Accommodations vs Price: Excellent!

Overall Rating: I travel a lot as part of my job (both domestically and internationally) and have staid at some amazing hotels. When I return back to Barcelona, my first choice for accommodations will be Apart Hotel Silver.

A place you can call home!

    from

we went there twice and it was absolutely fabulous. very clean, very friendly staff a place you can call home for a couple of days and usually i do not feel that way in hotels! i do not want to go anywhere else if i am going to barcelona => i will stay THERE!!! LOVE IT!

    Aparthotel Silver - 1A

    from

Probably the best expirience I have ever had. The service and people at the hotel are 1a. You won't find anyone else that can serve you as well as these folks. Direct in the heart of the city, right on the subway station, with shops, restaurants, and internet cafe's right around the corner. Book it and expirience it yourself. Well recommended.

    3rd day in Barcelona

The weather has been perfect for our trip so far. High 20's and sunny every day! We started our day by boarding the Metro ( which is super clean and efficient) and headed to a Barcelona Beach. Being a Saturday and prime tourist season, it was very busy! Arriving early worked out well as we got a good spot with lounge chairs and an umbrella. The …

Having visited Barcelona for 5 days I can say that there is something special around each corner there as well. My initial impressions of Barcelona were based on secondhand information and The Shadow of the Wind. I had read that book before I arrived in Lisbon so had to review it before going to Barcelona. I found that the book supplemented my …

Jay and the kids had a dip in the Mediterranean while Tracy held on to the prime table and watched the belongings. After lunch we visited the 'El Call', the Jewish quarter (ghetto) until the late 14th century. At that time there were 6000 Jews in Barcelona representing 20% of the population. We visited the synagogue that was lost under layers ...

    ... right!!

We spent a few days in a campground with everything we would need to pack up and tidy the motor home. My favourite thing about this place was the swallow nest in the womens washroom. Five baby swallows were being looked after by both their parents and you could see them growing and demanding more food every day. Little heads popping up and mouths squawking non-stop as soon as the parents were near. We were camped under a peach tree ...
