... but for some reason there's no direct transit from the colca canyon to Puno and you have to go all the way back to Arequipa to catch another bus. That's backtracking, and I hate backtracking! (Only my dad can fully understand that comment!). We did get some insider info at our last hostel that there is a way to get to Puno by transferring buses in some small town where you basically get off your bus heading to Arequipa and get on a bus across the street heading to Puno. ... had a short run into Iowa which with its tidy farms, manicured farms and gently rolling hills looked like PEI writ large. ... we could have stayed another day to visit with them a bit more. Left on Friday morning, driving in a window of good weather to get home before it rained. ... the invitation. I was kicking myself for this later, but knew it was the responsible thing. Wet tents and down sleeping bags are not a good combo. There is not a single working water spigot in Waterworks Park. The toilets had overflowed onto the floor, so in that way, it was true to the name. ... route 80 through Illinois and will enter Iowa tomorrow. We're on our way to visit the Badlands in South Dakota, and Yellowstone Park thereafter. With the route we're taking, it seems that between here and South Dakota, there is not much worth seeing. We could be wrong of course, but it seems it will be a weekend of mostly driving.
