It's illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey. Repeat, It's illegal to pump your own gas in New Jersey. Gas stations have long lines due to only having 1-2 attendants. Apparently the law was passed in the 1940s to protect senior citizens and small retailers but has stuck in order to prevent "gas-and-dash" crimes.
