The EasyRider bus tour

Well we finally made it to Broome, arrived Monday afternoon, what a great time we have had too! We jumped on the bus Saturday 27th at 7.20am & met our drivers, Gregg & Enzo! Gregg was training that's why we had 2! There were 3 girls on the bus who were Kate, Kerstin & Kat, who have now all become great friends! That day was a really long day. We stopped off at a place called the Pinnacles, which was good.It is sacred land to Aborigines as many died there so that no longer visit th...

Higher States of Relaxation

On Friday night, we had a big goodbye party with everyone from the boat. Dinner and drinks then I played the tamborine with the band. Everyone donned my Canada tatoos and I felt special. It was such a great send off, I don't even know how we made the bus at 1am. After a long restful bus ride, we arrived in Mission Beach. I remembered being recommended a hostel here with "Shark" in the title. But then, there was nothing like that as I looked at what was available. Perhaps they meant Beach Shac...

... obviously been the terrible introduction of pest species, the destruction of the forests, overstocking of the rangelands and inappropriate agriculture. It is by no means an overstatement when we say that life in Australia is hard!!

What is cool about the harsh environment is that it has produced some incredible animal species adapted to survival in such conditions. Did you ever wonder, for example, why Kangaroos hop? Apparently the energy of the bounce gets stored in very strong ...

The beautiful Indo-pacifc dolphins 26-27/11

... in order to go down to the beach for the
first dolphin feeding at 7.30am. When we got there, there was already 4 dolphins near the beach which was good as the
previous day only 2 came. Before the feeding started another 2 dolphins came to the shore. They are beautiful, indo-pacific
bottlenose dolphins. They only feed 4 female dolphins which are direct decendences of the original party of dolphins which
have been coming to the beach since the 1960s. They do not feed other ...

Our next stop on the trail was Carnarvon. There's not a lot to see here, but we had to stop anyway to get Horace’s tyres changed and the wheel alignment fixed. For a workhorse van, he can be quite high maintenance!

Carnarvon’s big attraction, for all astrophysics graduates and fans of the film 'The Dish’, is its OTC satellite relay station. From here, pictures of the moon landings were relayed to television audiences when the signal went out of range of NASA ...

Dolphins and Dinner

We stopped at a beach on the way to Denham and its called shell beach for a good reason its all small shells loads of them they actually have a quarry there to, so they can ground them down and give them to the chickens to harden the egg shell. The land is all small bushes there are no big trees at all its flat and strange looking. Well we landed in Denham well drove in and it was a bit bigger than i was expecting, (but small still) as ...

... of coffee and breakfast tarts (so divine I would be the size of a house if I lived here!) and a play in the park each morning. This is a 56km round trip so just down the road really!!!

The kite has not shown up. It got sent to perth so we settle in for another few days relaxing. We do a bit of sight seeing to Cape Peron and also visit the Monkey Mia information centre to learn about dugongs and all the other fantastic animals that ...

Not sure if I have mentioned it before but for some reason tom has been preoccupied with seeing 'red-sand' on this trip. He must have seen it in one of our books before we left home and it has been a fascination for him ever since ...

... on pristine shell-based sands and with magnificent views across Denham Sound to Dirk Hartog Island. For the children, somewhat bored with the company of their parents, there were further attractions. As Hilary says:

At Denham we made lots and lots of friends. We played lots of games including, exploring, chasey, and hide and seek. We also found a secret hideout that used to be some old steps and hid ...

Not where we had planned to stay!

... e to get to (and we’ve already done the **********e!). We also went to look at some more blow-holes. They weren’t as good as the Quobba ones but there was still a lot of impressive power in the waves. It was EXTREMELY windy while we were there. At one point, it was even buffeting the car around while we were sitting in it!

We managed to find a sheltered spot to have a quick bite for lunch and ...
