Strangest bus journey in the world!

... crowd has gathered, someone will cry "Taiyuan" and the crowd will ooh and ahh in a "Oh you mean Taiyuan, sure you should have said" kind of way!

Ticket successfully in hand, we followed our Bus Lady across the road to our sleeper. (She had the most beautiful boots) The bus was filled with the tiniest bunk beds you've ever seen. Just about big enough for a short leprechaun to lie on his side and curl up his feet. (mild exaggeration only)

The bus ...

The Shanxi province

... around it. The hotel was also built into city just like the rest of the buildings. Again, our room was beautiful and it actually contained an entire suite. We hustled off to dinner. Dinner was trip. Mr. Cao was funny and very witty, but a bit twisted and he certainly enjoyed making other people uncomfortable. He also like to drink, a lot. A self-proclaimed alcoholic, he enjoyed watching us squirm as he kept pouring the shots ...

No where to sleep

We get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.

Yichang and the 3 gorges

... it had rained earlier it was just a heavy fog. To get to the dam you must go into the mountains. I'm not sure of the elevation but it is about an hour drive. Near the end the bus goes through 5 tunnels, one of which is over 2 miles long. The tour takes you first to a point overlooking the dam at which time we could barely see across the dam. The 2nd stop is just under the top of the dam which gives the ...

Prekvapive i autobusova doprava je skvele organizovana, i kdyz nekdy trochu srandovne. Holt cinaci.

... upon marching up the hundreds of steps, I was thankful I hadn't donned anything warmer. One of the first things we noticed along our hike was that there were vendors selling locks, and that these locks, along with bright red ribbons, had been affixed to the metal-linked chains that served as handrails along the trails. Interested, we asked two girls from Singapore - who spoke English and were on our tour - what was the ...

Jinci Temple N Lazy Old Trees

... Whether these statuettes are washing, sweeping or dancing, they are all sculpted in a vivid and natural way. Jinci Temple was, to a certain extent, an imperial garden. Accordingly, some three hundred tablets were inscribed for it with writings by emperors, officials and poets, and these now line a scenic path in the temple. The most famous stele was written by the ...

As I said there was cake there, so of course I started a cake fight that quickly deteriorated into hiding Chinese adults while the students sought to launch attacks on the foreign teachers, but the Philippine teachers and I get the best of them! A pretty fun evening and much better than chillin out at home. The next day, Christmas, I went out for hot pot with Kate and Jason and decided ...
