PD & Cairns

We arrived in PD early evening and checked in to our studio apartment before heading out to a lovely fish restaurant for supper.

We spent most of Sunday exploring the town and after much deliberation by Luce on the sea weather and wind forecast for Monday we booked up a boat trip out to the Great Barrier Reef.

We awoke to brilliant sunshine, much to Luce's relief! We were picked up early and headed down to the marina. The boat was quite full but luckily we were the on...

Birthday Night and Peppers

... a bit of Karoke and danced alot of the night. The next day I was able to check into peppers and it was a lovely hotel. Most of the people staying there were families so there were lots of kids around. The room was great and had my own spa. The food was good but very expensive and there was a good selection of drinks in the mini bar!
<br ...

Cairns to Cape Tribulation: we got here!!!

... Autobarn and have arranged to leave the van with them in Cairns while we are on the boat and therefore do not need to make use of the parking that we so painstakingly arranged!

We booked for a sea kayaking experience with the outfit by the campsite, neither of us having done this before. This entailed a very early start, the guy saying that he would meet us at 7:00am at the campsite reception hut. We were there in plenty of time and settled down, steeling ...

Start of my backpacking travels.....

... Canada. Mike was only there 2 days and hitchhiked up north into the rainforest so me jamie and Francis have been hanging out all week. I have discovered the amazing use of ear plugs to help me sleep as certain people snore (no names mentioned). Also helps as the bar dont close till midnight so when taking an early night the music is banging as we are within 10 foot of the bar.

Its true what they say about backpackers, they are ALL friendly and ...

Road trip - Cape Tribulation

... pretty long, but raising sun was slowly turning the tent into hell. Breakfast was quick since there wasn't much left to eat. We rent a canoe from the camp master and had a ride on the lake. Guys also had a swim. Fresh but hungry we left the camp early afternoon and drove through the Danbulla nat. park, stopping at The Chimneys, Mobo Creek Crater and Cathedral Fig Tree, which is around 500 years old and is 44m in girth. Lake Eacham, according to several sources ...

What a load of old shit!

... free of charge some complimentary walking to sitting area and chatting all free of charge and included in the dinner evening experience. Complimentary family heritage cutlery from Debenhams will also be provided for those who do not wish to eat a la Indian. Dirty, minging, scabby, lazy, blowing their tour out of all proportions, bastids!!! Now of course one would normally complain to the guide and say - well that was a load of old ***** even if it did ...

Pt. Douglas: Witnessing a Cyclone in a Rainforest

... and freshwater found in the river. The river is also infested with the mammoth and fearsome saltwater crocodiles. Over the years, there have been numerous crocodile attacks on boats in the river and idiotic people either on its riverbanks or swimming. Entry to the National Park requires crossing the river on a cable-pulled car ferry that costs AUD15. We paid our toll amongst the cyclone rains and were on our way into the park. The ...

Tropical Rainforest

... going. Sounds like South American slash-and-burn farming you say? Pretty much. The disturbing part about it is that this part of Queensland wasn't really settled until the 1900s. Overall, we spent most of our time on the bus getting there, when we did get there, spent most of the tour part on the bus, and when we did get off the bus, there wasn't much to see (although the guides managed to draw it out some). As far as tours go, this one ...
