... was the lighting display on the second floor – room after room of the largest, most spectacular chandeliers I have ever seen- bigger than Versailles! I could only wonder- who buys these and where do they live? So many things about living in Dongguan are incongruent with my expectations.

Last night was the first night we slept without any air conditioning on. We’re now wondering just how cold it will be in the apartment because we don’t have ...

Tim and I did a session on the F&P Assessment Kits and I had to race through. Imagine trying to explain how to use the Kit in 20 minutes. Tim has had a cold for 3 weeks, coughing and hacking but not yet "hawking the loogie" on the street as so many of the locals do, and not just the men! It's disgusting! Today he ...

... Pumpkin pie wasn’t an option but I could manage an apple crisp so my plan was in place. All the chickens at the wet market are hanging from their necks above the tables – not good. At Wallmart, there were a number of small fowl wrapped and refrigerated, but I wasn’t sure what they were. I took my best stab at buying half a chicken and then bought several packages of chicken breasts which I was positive about. First surprise was baking the apple crisp in ...
