We enjoyed our Shangrila 2-day stay. All we did was lounged around the pool as my toddler loved the water. The service we received was GREAT! I called the front-desk a few times, ie, leaking faucet, and somebody came in 10 minutes and fixed it. Food was good, although you can get same quality lower cost at restaurants within the city. We had local friends who took us to different restaurants out of the hotel and I noted that their prices are lower compared to when dining in-house (the extra you pay for convenience). One of the comments compared Shangrila to Marriot (we stayed in Marriot during the same trip). Marriot is a business hotel, the food is not too bad, but Shangrila had more variety when it comes to buffet. We will be staying there again on our next trip !!!
Superb Hotel but still not at par with other 5 star hotels

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel recently and overall the service and facilities are quite good. However, i beg to differ that this is a five star hotel. I have been to several upscale resorts around the world and this, definitely, does not meet the standards of a five star resort. I was warned about the food but it turned out to be quite good.
We loved it and will be going back on April 2006!!!

When my husband and I went to the Philippines last year, I wanted to make sure we stay at the nicer places (Nami in Boracay and Shangrila Makati to name a couple). We stayed at the Mactan Shangrila for 2 nights only due to time constraints and wished we could've stayed longer!
This place is WONDERFUL!!! The pools are beautiful (especially the infinity one) and clean, service is great (especially at the spa and health club), the food is very good (especially the one that serves local Filipino dishes, but can't remember the name).
Sure, the private beach isn't big, but if you are like us who like being by the pool as long as you get the oceanview anyway, you will absolutely love this place! If you are visiting from the U.S. like ourselves, you will be very pleased to know that your money will go very far there even for a Shangrila. For a hotel that nice, it will cost you at least double or even triple here in the U.S.!
So, go, have a great time at the Mactan Shangrila! We can't wait to go back next April and I'm looking forward to their new spa!
Hope this helped your decision.
Likes and dislikes for Shangri la Mactan

Stayed there for 3 days 2 nights. Great deal on Expedia included buffet breakfast and dinner, late check out and non motorized water sports. Prices for food were very reasonable. Nice hotel, great staff and overall an excellent stay. Dislikes....the bathrooms need remodeling, there was rust and mold in the tub and the shower curtain had stains. Didn't expect this from 5 star Shangri la so we called guest services and within minutes our room was changed. The bathroom was improved but mold in the tub and stained shower curtain was still visible.

Stayed at the Shangrila Cebu last march 22- 26..S0 SO Shangrila-- didnt really lived up to its Shangrila Standard..the ocean view was ok nothing spectacular..theres always a long line at check in.. buffet breakfast is not recommended at all..most of the restaurants of the hotel are fully booked since the locals dine there too..and they dont have priorities for hotel guests at all..i would suggest the Plantation Bay than this mediocre Shangrila ..
You cannot go wrong with Shangri la Mactan!

I live about ten minutes away from Shangri la Cebu. I have been to many top resorts around the world from Europe, Asia and North America and I would have to say that it is par with what most 5* resorts around the world has to offer. After all, it is a Shangri la resort. The newly opened Tides restaurant serving International dishes is pretty good. Shang Palace serve one of the best Chinese food anywhere in Cebu. The newly refurbished Cowrie Cove has amazing views over the beach. A lot of their facilities are either brand new or newly refurbished inlcluding the rooms and spa.
If you are looking for a 5* resort with everything that comes with it (ie., 400+ rooms, lots of guests/tourists, restaurants) then you cannot go wrong wth Shangri-la Mactan, however if you are more into seclusion and privacy then Plantaion Bay Resort, Alegre or Pulchra will be more your idea of paradise.
Finally, the service in Shangri-la Mactan is exceptional!
A nice place for a weekend escape
from JKWD
We spent a weekend at this hotel. The service is good and the room is spacious and clean. The food is ok given the reasonable price. The private beach is a bit disappointing but the swimming pool is good.
With a variety of leisure activities, one does not really need to leave the hotel but we did take the free shuttle by the hotel to a downtown shopping mall where we bought many cheap and interesting souvenirs.
Shangrila mactan is great but food is terrible
from A TripAdvisor Member
it is kid friendly and safe..the rooms are very nice and clean, i just do not like the food. the breakfast buffet is terrible and not well presented. it is a five star hotel but the food is three star quality.
Shangrila hmmppp!!!

it is the typical so-so hotel only that you pay a higher price. i dont see why it is a 5 star hotel. accounting staff are so slow and impolite. you can see that the only recepients of shangrila hospitality are those foreigners and those they think have the big bucks!
very expensive. i would rather prefer marriot hotel as an alternative. they give warmer service, the same amenities necessary for a comfortable stay... at a reasonable price.
