No.16 Qiwan North Road, Dong District Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, 528403, 760-838-6888
September 26, 2007 We left Zhongshan on August 2nd, and headed for Guangzhou so we could catch our flight to Chengdu. We had originally planned to leave on August 6th, as we had been told by Bond that classes didn't end until August 5th, so we made all our flight and train arrangements around the August 6th departure date. The first morning we were in Chengdu, we got up early to go and see the pandas at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. It was great, as we saw lots of pandas,...
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China gayegibsonWe left Lijiang fairly early in the morning on a bus headed some 200 kilometers north. The drive to Zhongdian (pronounced "Jongdien") was gorgeous. Initially, the road took us down in elevation, but then we climbed again - quite a bit. We drove on winding roads along the edge of canyons, careening near the brink, miles above the raging rapids below. During the drive, we caught our first glimpse of Tiger Leaping Gorge, a place we would soon see up close and personal. After four hours we had re...

Macau, China warfairy... sample a different brand from the first. Four times I did this as we both watch the game and I enjoyed the various different beers on offer. It was only afterwards as I left that I was given the bill. OUCH, the beer I could have bought in the street for 3RMB were all 30 to 40RMB each in the bar. I paid then left for my room. However I was stopped and hit up for a massage or any "extra services" by one of the hotel staff, I was definitely not interested.
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China livewireshockUnderwhelming, disappointing, and lame. The ferry to Macau was wonderful, but I credit Hong Kong with that. Macau is advertised as this Portuguese fusion mix with Asia. Lots of Spanish Architecture and ruins along with new Casinos. I think there are around 5 Spanish style buildings on the island, and they are all listed as tourist attractions, just regular buildings, nothing that special ...
Macau, Macau, China mericanomad... We weren't the last ones on so we had time to relax and get settled. The ferry took about an hour and we could see the neon of the casinos lighting up the harbour and the night sky. Once again we had to go through passport control. I got a three month visa and Frits got just one month. Poor South Africans. We went to Information and got maps and relevant bus routes to get us to the ...
Macau, Macau fritsswanepoel... out there, braving the weather & the tourists. From the twisting of fate by real-estate developers, these cannons are aimed the new structures, seemingly ready just in case the office-place inhabitants inside them get too far out of line. Across a narrow strait of water a mountain on Mainland China looks down on Macau; there's someone over there keeping an eye on this place too, to be sure to intercede long before those cannons are needed again. And while ...
Macau, Macau fatduck... its another currency, so had to change some Yuan into MOPs the Macanese Pataca, which is only used in Macau, but is basically the same value as the HKD and the Yuan. Jumped on a bus and went to find the hotel I had found using google as hotel prices in Macau are expensive and theres no backpacker hostels. The address is as follows Augusters Lodge 24, Rua Do Dr. Pedro Jose Lobo, Floor 3J, Block 4, Edif:Kam Loi, Macau. Managed ...
