88 degrees today although we have only been out of the all pervading air con. for half an hour. Same at Heathrow. Ready for a shower and first dose of ante-malaria.The 12 + hour flight from Heathrow was fine and we both travelled well. All connections good and hastle free, if somewhat tiring. I managed to see "Saving Mr. Banks" in the early hours …
Just about to collect our bags from the Shangri-La, they've been stored away when we were chucked out of the room at midday. The hotel has been really great, not just storing the bags but allowing us to use the pool and spa facilities to freshen up before the flight and giving us a cup of tea and a little bite to eat. Have I said it before? The …
Day one, so far so good.
My Qantas flight was perfectly on time, the going was smooth all the way and the transfer lady was waiting patiently for me in arrivals. Both Sydney and Singapore Airports where incredibly busy as its the start of school holidays in Australia, and there is a Formula one race in Singapore this weekend,
In April 19, me and my family took a plane from Etihad Airways at the morning. We left the city of Abu Dhabi at early noon and we arrived at Singapore at night. We took a bus where it took us to a hotel called Shangri-La Hotel where we stayed there. The hotel's architecture is nice, as well the rooms and the food they offer.
For a week, we …
So the trick of a last day on holiday is to squeeze as much as possible out of it! After 8 solid hours of sleep, Howard and I were up and out for a run. The hotel had helpfully left a 'Jogger's Map' in the room, with a 4km trail indicated, so off we set.
The Shangri-La Hotel is set on Orange Grove Road in an area of huge houses, foreign …

Historical Traveler Reviews Shangri-La Hotel Singapore
From the many glowing reviews of this hotel, we were expecting world class -- along the lines of the Peninsula in Bangkok. Though nice, the Shangri-La is not in this same class. Perhaps it is the size (the huge lobby was always full of crowds over the holidays), but it just does not have the same intimate, luxurious feel as many other 5-star Asian hotels. The rooms in the Tower Wing are very mod. The Horizon Club Lounge is just okay -- more like an airline lounge feel than a luxury hotel. The Valley Wing is truly a cut above (though you'll pay a lot more for it) -- it was the only part of the hotel that really felt world-class. If you going to Singapore for shopping on Orchard Road, the location is great. If you want to go further afield, you'll have to take cabs since the hotel is not near the MRT. The hotel is definitely worth considering, but don't go with expectations that are sky-high.
We stayed at the Shangri-La on Orange Grove Road (there's another at Sentosa) after a personal recommendation and reading these reviews.
This hotel was everything I imagined it was and MORE. The staff are the best I have experienced in any hotel in the world. Their keeness to make sure that you have a pleasant stay was truely geniune - nothing is too much trouble.
We had arranged for the hotel limousine to meet us but the driver took us to the hotel main entrance, not the Valley Wing where we were booked which has a separate entrance, lobby, reception etc. We did not realise this, never having visited before, & an agent had made the booking.
We stopped at the Shangri-La in Singapore for 3 nights on our way from London to Perth for our wedding.
I stayed for 3 nights in June or July, during the 3rd Annual anti-terrorism conference and the IATA conference. So as you can imagine, the hotel was packed - even Donald Rumsfeld was there, the army, the police etc etc etc.
Couldn't fault it!
One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at (May 04). Staff as friendly as you would expect, food great, rooms fine, pool absolutely wonderful. We were only there for 2 nights before going on - but didn't want to leave.
Have no hesitation in staying here.
This place just has excellence written all over it. If it's the little touches that make a good hotel great then the Shangri-La deserves the highest accolade available. Whilst sitting around the pool the staff walk around handing out complimentary chilled water, slices of tropical fruit and chilled hand towels to keep you cool. At night they turn down your bed, arrange your slippers and deliver a basket containing a pot of green tea. The fitness centre and spa are incredible. They have separate facilities for men and women, each with its own sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and relaxation room. The gym is the best I've ever seen in a hotel; it even has its own rock climbing machine. And despite the fact that it was my first stay (and I was using frequent flyer points) I was immediately made to feel like a valued customer. If you go to Singapore I can't recommend this hotel more highly. The only problem is, if you're like me, you may find that you lose the will to leave the confines of the hotel and explore the city.
What a hotel should be
From the second you walk in to the fabulous entrance hall you'll love the hotel. The rooms are large and roomy, the bathroom is big with a separate power shower. The bar on the top floor is great, with a fantastic view of the city. As for breakfast... just go to the chef and he'll do your eggs as you like them.
The weirdest touch has got to be the carpets in the lift which change daily. How do you know? They have the day of the week on them!
Not as over the top as Raffles, a fine hotel a short walk from Orchard Road
This hotel is absolutley beautiful....I only had a normal room but when I walked in I couldn't believe it. The bathroom is huge with a double shower a huge double bed. The food in the hotel is georgous. And the Horizon Bar is fantastic...overlook the Singapore skyline.
You would not be dissapointed with this hotel everything is very high standards and the staff cannot do enough to help you
