OK kiddos, like I said there won't be many entries in this one - and I have just discovered that this is infact the last one until we get down to Kinarut next Tuesday since we will be playing adventurers in the Borneo jungle for the next week. We arrived yesterday after too much flying to beautiful Kota Kinabalu - blue water, lush green islands and picture perfect beaches - all at 32 degrees celsius. We went from being absolutely exhausted to finding our second wind and rushing straight to ou...
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia reece.carter... stand right in front of me. It's annoying to be sure but very amusing and makes me smile.

Aside from kamikaze foot going folks and oppressive heat, being marooned on Borneo for a week was very decent. Where else could I have been hissed at by Komodo Dragon looking things, seen Nemo lounging around, or watched Proboscis Monkeys peeing on naive tourists from the treetops? Didn't their moms teach them to never ever stand ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia atlpilot36... platform. At one stage there was a lot of rustling just as I was walking between two of the viewing platforms and a mongoose dashed across the path right in front of me followed by one of the baby orangutans who then pormptly sat down at my feet, lost his balannce and fell into my leg. He then sat at my feet until the warden came and got him - I had to resist the temptation to lean down and pick him up as you arent supposed to touch them as can affect ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia jason_m_smith... as well as amazing tea plantations cannot make visitors unhappy. Although guided tours might bring interesting moments, my experience was that less visited sights and organizing trips independently generally means better value and more authenticity. People coming for watching wildlife might be disappointed, in most of the jungle and rainforest areas there is very little wildlife left.
Borneo is slightly more ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia tsimko... that, taking a leisurely 5 hours to reach the hut.

There wasn’t much in the way of views as the afternoon mist came down but it was a friendly walk up with different groups chatting as we passed going up or down and wished each other luck (Sarah, still not feeling great felt in need of this!). We kept meeting the same folks at the rest stops.
As we slogged up to Laban Rata the porters who carry up all the supplies passed us at times ...
Kampong Lagup, Sabah, Malaysia martynandsarah... us, about Afghanistan, Iraq, what the people there thought of us Brits, what the countries where like? He had an inquisitive nature about himself and was very intellectual offering to tell me about Iraqs past history, all of these qualities where born from a lifetime of being a head teacher and travel. John gave us a contact to meet up with in Kathmandu. “mention my name and he’ll look after you” John had taught his cousin or son ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia shelleyandsimmo... was just being helpful and took us the the normal booking terminal and got us sorted for an excellent day out. We went with Borneo Ferry group and you just turn up and pay then get on a boat when enough people turn up and head out. We have nick named KK plus plus. While everything is cheap it is also plus this and plus that. So for one adults it was 18RM, then somewhere else for RM6 for terminal fee then RM15 to hire snorkeling gear then on the island RM10 ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia brinvincible... corpse flower" or "meat flower". The vile smell that the flower gives off attracts insects such as carrion flies, which transport pollen from male to female flowers. The flower can take up to 12 months to grow and then only lasts for 5 days. Another one of our adventures took us to the Kilas River wetlands south of KK, here we took a small motorboat along the maze of waterways, as they cut through the mangroves and palms. Tall trees spring up on islands and it is ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia andyfreshwaterWetlands river cruise in the afternoon along river Garama to spot proboscis monkeys, macaques and silver leaf monkeys. Saw a group of water buffalo and some birds. Passes a river village where the houses are built on stilts. On the way back found a "xmas tree" lit up by fire-flies. Also got poured on by a random tropical rain storm which seems to be quite common here ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia ashah_008... We had a lovely day, sitting on the beach, snorkeling and swimming and just chilling out reading our books. It was such a difference from the hectic jungle safari! We saw loads of fish, the amount of them was ridiculous. Loads of asian tourists were doing this thing where they get a piece of bread, break it into pieces, stick the pieces between their toes, stick their toes into the water and literally hundreds of fish come and ...
