History Day!

Today we decided to test out the local train and bus system and head out to Changi for a look at the Changi Prisoner of War Museum.
Then nearest MRT station was at City Hall, which was only a short distance away, trying to negoitiate the streets or the malls is a bit of a nightmare so we sought instructions from one of the many helpful hotel staff. She in fact walked with us part of the way so that we wouldn't get lost - try getting that ...

Two Cities, a Beach & Loudspeaker Mosques at 5am!

... sleep until I noticed that the driver looked like he had the same idea! After watching him do the old nodding dog a couple of times I thought that maybe staying awake would be a safer option as if I fell asleep I may not wake up again! It was bad enough for us going to Penang but this mini bus was going all the way to Singapore and I still wonder if the rest of the passengers made it there ok??

Our first stop in Penang was Georgetown which is the Islands main town, but with ...

First time in a mixed dorm!

... sat on a plastic stool in this little place where they were cooking right next to me. Loved the rota – like a fuffy pancake/bread. Food was $3.50 & a big water $1.

Excited that I had navigated it all in preparation for travelling through China which will not be as simple as here.

Off to bed & read now – not sure when lights can be turned off – still so much to discover!!

Sweat. And my new found love for Geylang

... who couldn't be shaken off. Returning to Geylang was actual heaven after a day of frustration.

Moving on from the negativity, today was much better as we were once again left as a threesome. We first went to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to have a little walk around one of Singapore's only natural rainforest areas. The weather was distinctly cooler and after taking another bus, we soon found ourselves transported away from the big city into an entirely new ...

Lions, Malls, and Flowers

... but decided to skip it since it wasn't free...

We left the Gardens a bit after sunset, and did the cable cars up to Mount Faber. At the top offered great views of the city centre, illuminated at night by all the skyscraper lights. Unfortunately, the pictures didn't turn out so well. Other than taking pictures, there's not much to do up there so we went back down and went for drinks at one of the restaurants/bars on Clarke Quay...

... been reading to the boys as much as possible and we also encourage Issaac to speak to Sam clearly so he understands better, hopefully this helps with his speech. I am excited to let you know when and what his next words will be. I will keep you posted. Adam is booked to work in Hong Kong and Tokyo in May so I am pretty sure we will be going along to Tokyo, will try to get to Disney for Samuel's birthday.

Spotless Singapore; So Long Asia

... by his bunk - okay! P**haps we w**en't the best of acquaintances! The Singapore Zoo. By far, and I'm talking Space-esque distances h**e, the most agreeable zoo I've ev** been to. The enclosures w**e clean, large and leafy, and some w**e even of an open-concept, which dazzled me appreciably, especially when, at one point, a lemur was m**e inches away from my nose, his smold**ing eyes burning into my own. Jessie was smitten with the place, as any animal-lov** has a ...
