The hotel is 5 star and has the best international buffet breakfast selection I have ever seen. The rooms are modern and spacious. Free bottles of water are provided every day and there are the usual amenities in the room such as tea & coffee making and free WiFi. However China does not allow access to Google or Facebook. The staff are are all helpful and friendly and will change dollars into Yuen.

One of the best hotels in which we've ever stayed. It's part of the Shangri La chain. The room was spotless and huge, with lots of amenities. I had forgotten to bring a voltage converter, but the hotel provided a working antique for me at no charge. The lobby is beautiful and elegant. The buffet is expansive and expensive, but if your breakfast is included in the room charge, you definitely need to experience all the different entrees catering to the national tastes of its guests. The hotel features a huge shopping mall in its lower level, which attaches to other malls from adjacent high-rise office buildings. You can wander for hours amidst the most well-known boutiques, as well as groceries, restaurants, and even a giant ice skating rink. Political note: no Facebook or Twitter available when you use their free wi-fi.

Beautiful five star hotel. Check out the shopping mall and ice skating rink two levels below the lobby--but don't get lost.

We stayed here while traveling with Viking River Cruises. It is definitely 5 star European style and service for the well-heeled business traveler.

After two days in fog on the Yellow Sea, our ship was allowed to dock at the Tianjin Port, which is a two and a half hour drive from Beijing. We were sad to disembark for the last time, having thoroughly enjoyed the Crystal cruise as our base for China. It was great when we arrived being able to wash our clothes after the South East Asia trek and …

For anyone travelling to Beijing, I would advise you not to come on a Chinese holiday. The place is heaving with people as it is Chinese New Year. I think Spring would probably be better as a cold wind is coming off the Gobi desert and the chill factor is quite something. However we are here now so off we go to the Forbidden Palace and push our way …

During our three day post-cruise extension in Beijing, we were under the helpful tutelage of Charlie. All of our Chinese tour guides have had Anglicized names, including Tony and Angela.

Charlie explained that his real name is Wang Cheng Li. He even wrote it out for me, in English and in Chinese characters. I don't know how he came up with …
