The hotel is 5 star and has the best international buffet breakfast selection I have ever seen. The rooms are modern and spacious. Free bottles of water are provided every day and there are the usual amenities in the room such as tea & coffee making and free WiFi. However China does not allow access to Google or Facebook. The staff are are all helpful and friendly and will change dollars into Yuen.

One of the best hotels in which we've ever stayed. It's part of the Shangri La chain. The room was spotless and huge, with lots of amenities. I had forgotten to bring a voltage converter, but the hotel provided a working antique for me at no charge. The lobby is beautiful and elegant. The buffet is expansive and expensive, but if your breakfast is included in the room charge, you definitely need to experience all the different entrees catering to the national tastes of its guests. The hotel features a huge shopping mall in its lower level, which attaches to other malls from adjacent high-rise office buildings. You can wander for hours amidst the most well-known boutiques, as well as groceries, restaurants, and even a giant ice skating rink. Political note: no Facebook or Twitter available when you use their free wi-fi.

Beautiful five star hotel. Check out the shopping mall and ice skating rink two levels below the lobby--but don't get lost.

We stayed here while traveling with Viking River Cruises. It is definitely 5 star European style and service for the well-heeled business traveler.

Our day started with an hour-and-a-half drive to the Great Wall. One of mankind's most impressive creations, it was built in the 3rd century BC to protect China's northern border from marauding nomads and barbarians. The wall stretches about 4,509 miles from east to west. Today it remains a monument to the painstaking endeavours of nearly one …

We left the ship just after 9:00 am. and went through Chinese customs which went very smoothly. We boarded a bus and drove into Beijing. We had lunch at a Novotel. It was amazing how they handled about 800 people arriving on one bus after another. It was a good Chinese Buffet with some western touches.

After that we headed to the Forbidden …
