Between Hamsin and Sabbath - an Easter Foray in the Holy Land We're back on the travelling scene! This time it's something really special. As a late wedding present, Regine's parents, Eva and Udo, invited us for a 2 week trip to Israel for 2 weeks around Easter. And Regine's brother Steffen came along, too. Why is it so special? Because Regine and Steffen spent part of their childhood here, Udo worked in Israel for many years, Eva lived and studied here for years, they both met here and got m...
Tel Aviv, Israel wenzelsDay 2 - J**usalem by day Today we would explore J**usalem from all angles. So first we strengthened ourselves with a typical Israeli breakfast buffet: mainly bread, cheeses, eggs and h**ring - an old East**n European Jewish tradition. Th**e isn't any meat as that would not be kosh** (milk and meat must nev** be combined!). The old city of J**usalem is encircled by a huge wall about 4.5 km long. It's divided into 4 parts: the Jewish, Christian, Arab and Armenian quart**s (heck knows how they g...

Jerusalem, Israel david_chung... bad timing. When the priestly blessing commenced the throng fell silent, except for the sound of cameras clicking, at least in and around us. Near the Wall we could see many, many Cohenim covered completely in their talitot, hands held high, swinging from side to side. Then it was over, the loud murmer returned to the crowd, and we exited into the souk as quickly as we could push through the entrance. As we left, heading into oncoming ...

Jerusalem, Israel dinoshona... in the Dead Sea. While Sarah and Addison readied themselves for dinner I went for a late afternoon swim in the swimming pool. It was great. Swimming in cool water with the tall barren cliffs on one side and the blue waters of the Dead Sea on my other side. After another excellent dinner at the dining hall we took a sunset garden stroll and ran into our friend again and were off to bed. Can it get any better?
Ein Gedi, Dead Sea Region, Israel leafmold... br><br>Then the 40-minute skit came and my acting was a huge hit. In the different scenes, I imitated my commander to the dot, represented one of the suck-ups, and also impersonated the funny Argentinian soldier who did not know any English. As I would later tell my mefakedet after breaking distance, the commanders are always on the front stage to their soldiers. They order us around all day despite being our age or younger, they punish us repeatedly, and yet we know all the ...

Bethlehem, West Bank and Gaza beccaboyer... then the Muslims came and built the temple Mount. I thought it was interesting; the story behind it was really fascinating to me. After the Temple Mount we head back down to the Western Wall. My mom and me make slips of paper and put them in the wall, we say a prayer and hope our wishes come true. One fun fact I learned about the slips of paper that get put in the wall is that is your paper is easy to get out by the end of the month the people taking care of ...
Jerusalem, Israel grossmanjh... of Northern Europeans in the tomb with us who began singing. For that matter there was a group of Asian folks at the top of Mt Olives who where singing too. Apparently, many folks break out in song in Jerusalem. In the afternoon, we visited the New City. We were in search of the Mahane Yehuda Market, a live chicken (for a photo op), lunch and the Central Bus station. We walked a LONG way - and ultimately found the market ...
