Small room and bath but good location and friendly staff. Room offered all we needed. It is not brand new but still in acceptable condition. Location is central and in walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars and a supermarket. We would stay here again.

When we were planning our stay in Auckland we had made arrangements to stay with a third Couch Surfing host. However, he seems to have disappeared. He works nights and now that we are here we haven't been able to reach him by phone or e-mail. But we don't' feel too bad about that. After four days and nights living in …

We're in Auckland baby! We landed in Auckland at around 1pm after two short flights. Our first flight was only 3.5 hours from Perth to Melbourne and uneventful as we both slept most of the flight. When we got off at Melbourne we had to leg it through the domestic airport to the international which was a fair hike. We actually had to run the …

... it was weird to know that that was where my parents had spent a day up in a helicopter whilst we were on the other side of the Alps up on Franz Josef Glacier.

Arriving in Lake Tekapo itself, our driver stopped at this tiny little church for us to take a photo. I guess it would have looked cool with a blue sky, but it was pretty dull in the rain, and we all were quick to bundle back in the bus after looking at it briefly. Our hostel was just down the road, and ...

... rocks were really dark and full of small air bubbles (a bit like an Aero). It was another long hard climb - perhaps all our travelling hadn't made us as fit as we'd thought! Near the top we took a detour to some of the lava caves. These were formed when flowing magma cools and solidifies on top whilst hot magma continues to run underneath. The caves were very cool, they reminded me of the Valley of the Dead from The Lord of the Rings. They were pitch black ...
