Not as crap as Mumbai

We took the sleeper train to Ahmedabad, Gujabat. I'm dizzy again, but I think it’s now the effects of the wobbly 9hour train ride.

Seems there is some event in town and most of the hotels are booked out. After some searching, we found a nice double bed to share. Apparently the law here in Gujabat (the state) make you lay down a finger print when sigining in ...

Well bad innit!

... now. We were strangely excited about this novel site to visit. In fact it appeared that Wells are generally so low down our tourists priorities that the Auto driver had trouble deciphering where we wanted to go. This Well, Dada Hari Wav, did not disappoint. It was built in 1499 by a woman of Sultan Begara's harem. It had
steps to lower platforms, terminating at a small, octagonal well. It was filled with cobwebs and bats. The Well was all ours, making it especially ...

10,000 steps to Junagadh

... the pilgrims pray, before finding somewhere quiet to relax, as by this point my legs felt and if they were made from molten rock. However, quiet, relax and India really do not go hand in hand and within minutes we were surrounded by maybe forty or more smiling faces all wanting to meet us. No one could believe their eyes that we were there, one man shook my hand vigorously an with the utmost sincerity in his voice, thanked me for coming to India ...

The bus ride

... refreshments, I sulkily decided to stay in my "cabin" and wait for the awful trip to end. My cage door slid open and a smiling face informed me - "Last stop sir". Shocked that the journey was over so soon, I staggered to my feet, collected my bags and went outdoors. Yawning, I asked the driver "Last stop? Udaipur?" he promptly replied - "No," and named some unknown destination. I looked at him blankly. "Udaipur? I need to get to ...

Sasan Gir Safaris

Janpal: We went on two safaris. One was in the cool of the early morning. It started at 6:30 am. On this safari we saw the Sambar, Nilgais, Peacocks, Peahens and Monkeys. We saw lots of Spotted Deer. Apparently, there are 4,200 Spotted Deer in this Sanctuary. There are still 30 tribal villages (each with 3 or 4 houses) in the Sanctuary! Can you imagine sharing a water hole with thousands of animals? We came back to the Lodge for ...

Jamnagar to Sasan Gir

Janpal: We went from the outskirts of Jamnagar to Sasan Gir Wildlife sanctuary. The trip was relatively uneventful. I played games and listened to music in the car. Along the way we saw giant anthills about a meter tall. Along the way we are also trying to watch for kids our ages and to note what they are doing. So far, most of them have been heading to or from school. Some were working ...

... four of us were quite the source of entertainment and interest when we wandered around town. It is quite confronting being stared at so openly. The safari was actually a bit disappointing as the main person, Devji, was not able to take us instead his son did and his son's English was not as good and he was not that knowledgeable about the birds and animals. There was also a high ratio is driving around in ...

Catching up in Navsari

... it is providing here. We've been to several Rotary-run schools, hospitals, water treatment plants, as well as a prosthetic shop, pharmacology college, and many others. While based in Dhule a few days ago, we ventured to the Ellora and Ajanta Caves and a fort - google them and be amazed. Definitely a worthwhile sidetrip. We're officially halfway through our trip!
