The silver panic of ’93 and ’94 reduced Granite to almost a ghost town, but it built itself back up and was producing almost $1,000,000 a year until operations were suspended in 1904. It no longer was profitable to mine silver since the government repealed a law that said it would buy all silver that was produced. The once-fine town faded away until little is left.

... to the condo to cook dinner. Jean prepared the sautéed vegetables and corn while I grilled steaks for dinner. We ate on the patio and enjoyed the evening and packed for our trip tomorrow. ... during an earthquake. We visited the senate and representative chambers, which he had to unlock, that featured massive murals, some done by Charles M. Russell, such as "Lewis and Clark Meeting Indians at Ross' Hole." Very impressive. The tour ended and we tried to make it over to the tour traain, but it left while we were walking over. We had a nice noisy storm and a good amount of rain during the night. I left the windows open to cool the place down, so I saw much more lightning than usual as I tried to get to sleep. Eventually it came, as it always does. Patience does the trick for me.

We've been keeping relatively busy up here this trip, even without any plumbing emergencies. Two trips to Anaconda for meetings and to pick up some forgotten necessities help to keep us busy.
