Skiathos, Sporades, Greece
... To make ourselves move we stayed in Skiathos town and took a bus to the beaches. Even this way we didn’t see a lot of them, but I can definitely say that the best ones are those which are not close to the bus stops. The thing is that the farther you have to walk, the fewer people are there, especially in the beginning of the season.
The Koukounaries beach is very nice too and, probably, the most popular one, that is why it was getting more and more ...
... a hill and the boat stops there for only an hour. My mom simply refused to go up and preferred to spend the time at the beach, while I ran up and down and spent in Castro just some fifteen or twenty minutes clicking my camera. As a result I actually saw Castro in the photos at home. I’m sure that it is much better to get ...
Skiathos, Greece diamondden... island of Skopelos aboard “Voula”.
It was a fascinating experience! It is impossible to describe in words what it is like to move without any noise of the engine, enjoying the sound of the sea and the wind. It is so beautiful to stand in the front of the boat, feeling its swinging movement. I even had a chance to try sailing myself… Though I must admit, that Peter as an experienced seaman did the entire jobs himself, just giving me a pleasant ...
... enjoying traveling, is very much afraid of flying it was, how should I put it, rather impressive to see every single bolt and nut of the plane through the window. It seemed that the plane was flapping the wings like a bird. Still we arrived safely to Skiathos and you know what? I liked the flight!
“Skiathos is good if you want just a nice beach and beautiful scenery”, - my friend told me, but I decided to look for ...
Skopelos is way more country than Skiathos. It's larger in terms of area and smaller in terms of population. Things don't seem to be nearly as popular on the tourism front; the bus system runs infrequently and with significantly fewer stops.
That said, I was a much bigger fan of the beaches and overall feel of the place.
Day one: Arrived, chilled on a not-so-glamorous beach ...
... therefore quiet) and only about a 15 minute walk to the main drag.
Plus she stuck a bottle of wine in the fridge for us.
The first day was spent exploring the town. Both of us were in bed by, like, ten.
Day two was spent between two beaches on the other side of the island... The second was a bit of a hike and hidden. Dinner that evening was phenomenal and included free ...
... I mention the food.... Marilyn you really should have come, we've been thinking of you and Con! Thick, rich yogurt with honey and walnuts, the best, most flaky and creamy spinach pie you've ever tasted - thick, dense breads, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, - and the olives and feta... and the sagnaki!! I could go on and on.... but suffice to say it's incredibly delicious.... and the warm sea air makes it taste even better! So, as you can tell we're having a ...
Alonissos, Sporades, Greece strattc... was inverted it meant the woman who lived there was a widow and wanted to remarry. Back into the jeeps and off to climb further into the hillside and what spectular views of the bay below. Saw some awesome 1000 yr old trees (cant remember what they were called), also saw some castle ruins and mosques etc. Back down the hillside and through a little village, some of the road signs were hard case they were like our stop signs but said DUR presume this ...
Marmaris, Crete, Greece hazdeb... the stick. The shrines litter the hillside and usually contain lit candles and little relics. Interesting sidenote: Greece has the highest motor fatality rate in all of Europe. Opa! So, anyways, the trash. I am throwing packaging away as LC and I spent the afternoon setting up shelves in the basement studio for art supplies. This studio is PIMP - an open space that pours out onto a tile veranda that overlooks the Aegean sea - one can just imagine having a pottery wheel ...
Skiathos, Greece anneimalWe move on from Meteroa down to the Pelion Coast and back to the beach. Getting here was a real mission and we nearly ran out of petrol which was very worrying. To get to the coast we had to drive up and over a moutain. But it was worth the drive. This is the place where the locals come for their holidays. We arrived on a Sunday and the beach was packed with day trippers. The beach is very long and ...
