Set in a quiet passage just 10 minutes walk from both Saint Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge, the hotel might be small but it has a large heart. Welcoming and helpful staff and a comfortable room we're going to enjoy our stay here.

Our last day here in Venice

So our last day here in Venice. Today it started out fairly cool with rain forecast. We headed out to explore some of the more quiet passageways around our hotel area before crossing the Accademia bridge into the Dorsoduro area of Venice. The island comes to a point by San Salute and we sat looking across at the busy St Mark's Square and the …

After a good night's sleep we headed out towards St Mark's Square and the Campanile. Even though we didn't leave the hotel until about 9am the Square was fairly quiet and cool. No queues either, the reason for getting early. We got some incredible views of Venice and the Dolomites in the distance from the top of the Campanile, also of the Grand …

So here we are in Venice. The benefits of a really early start and short European flights means we've been able to have a full afternoon and evening exploring Venice. Really hot weather and our early start means we might now be ready for bed but at least we don't have jet lag to deal with this year. Jet lag can so knock you out for the first couple …

We did get lost in Venice, very hard not to, but it is a small city and we always found our way back to our hotel. There were a lot of people, can't imagine how busy it is in the summer.

... out in recognition of a plaza that he couldn’t possibly have been in before (never having been to Venice before). "I know this place! There’s… there’s a doorway into the Basilica just around that corner, and a back gate for the tower just hidden past that construction gate. I know this place, I did my best sniper-shooting from that balcony over there!" As it turns out, the makers of the stealth video game Assassin’s Creed are incredibly historically accurate.
