Into the Deep

... more unbelievable scenery through the canyons, which, over the entire route dropped from 2400m to 34m. The lowest elevation I’d been at since leaving London. The only train going on that day was first class. We had security guards with machine guns on board pacing the train like they were in the movies. There was also something strange going on in the front of the train and the rear carriage was reserved for one guy? Matthew and I sat in the bar ...

Atlas vs Chivas

... twice more to make it 4-1 before it was even half time! Chivas' third goal came from a rare indirect free kick inside the penalty area, after dangerous play from an Atlas defender. I managed to capture the goal along with the ensuing celebrations on video, which partly conveys a sense of the incredible atmosphere inside the stadium.

Inevitably the second half failed to live up to the opening onslaught; it was ...

The Streets: Art

Just got back from a fantastic (and sleepless) weekend in Guanajuato, a beautiful colonial city perched on a steep ravine about four hours by bus from Guadalajara. We visited the Cervantino Festival (named after Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote), saw tons of concerts, met many new people, ate some delicious food, and saw at least one sunrise from the top of the city. More about ...

Night Life

... crawled across my chest. I instinctively brushed it off me, but I was still half asleep and it was too dark to see what it was. All I knew was that whatever it was had been big enough to wake me from my slumber.

Yet last night I had forgotten all about this incident and drifted off to sleep as normal - only to be woken once again in the small hours of the morning by something crawling along my back. This time I was quick off the mark and reached for ...

Feliz Cumpleaños

... at salsa dancing I decided that it might be best to take some of the lessons available in the bars here. We arrived back late so the next morning I decided to skip classes in favour of a birthday lie in. This gave me plenty of time to catch up with a few friends from home and recover in time for the festivities that night.

My Dream of going to Mexico is finally realised

... that I have never seen in any Australian club.
We met some Senioritis and before I went back to the hostel they took us to get a 3:00am snack. It was a Mexican version of a 24 hour Maccas, a big, outdoor but fenced in taco restaurant. Even though it was almost fast food, they had valet parking, which was weird. The most exciting thing was the two guards outside the restaurant who held handguns at the ready.

Springtime Weather ALWAYS!!!

... have it in you.  Personally, I rarely negotiated because the prices seemed so fair.

One of the days we drove to Guadalajara to the Children's museum - it was VERY nice for the children, I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to do something interactive while visiting the area.

Another day we went to Tonala, Mexico.  This is a great place to shop from a HUGE selection of gifts, housewares, art, etc.  Tonala is known for great prices on the products!!!

... points (many do here) to represent the 7 sins.. it was invented by the spanish to try and convert the mexicans. Also churches usually have plazas in front with a cross outside because the mexicans didn´t want to go inside the church as it was sacred. I also learnt about how mexico city was founded... very interesting but more on that later. So coayacan had old churches (with plazas), markets, fondas (little restaurants) and la casa de ...

Tlaquepaque

Lovely town on suburb of Guadalajara, meant to be good for bargains. Dropped our stuff at bus station then got taxi to town centre and went in search of a good hammock. No luck. Lots of nice shops but too expensive for the likes of us. Stalls around the main square had some nice stuff too.
