Day 1

In our first day trip, we went from Barcelona to Pamplona by car, as we travelled the 1st of May we got into a traffic jam in Zaragoza due to road works (to get the city prepared for the upcoming expo in June) and the amount of cars that jumped into the roads and highways to enjoy the 4-day-holiday. We arrived to Pamplona by lunch time and after having some food we went to see the city.... Pamplona is a little city in the north of Spain which is well-known thanks to its worldwide famous festi...

Fiestas, Siestas and Running with the Bulls

... up to slap the bulls ass or take a chance at wrestling it down. During these shanagans, the bulls definitely had his revenge tossing several people in the air, trampling others, and running some into the arena walls. After about 10 minutes of this a large oxen was sent out to round up the baby bull and bring him back in. Then people line up in front of the door where the baby bulls are released. They form a row of about 5 people across and 10 people deep, holding their heads down ...

Forest! See ya soon!

This stage has no difficulties, the landscapes begin to change, we left the woods behind us and we begin to see beatiful fields til we reach our destination.

In Los Arcos I don't recommend the main refuge... when we were there we saw lots of bugs, an unpleasant smell, a small kitchen... the village is not very impressive but the main church (worth to see)
A rainy day

We'll remember this stage for the amount of mud we accumulated in our legs. It was an awkward day, at least this stage was pretty easy but the beginning (a huge climb with a lot of mud).

We founded the main refuge in Estella newly renovated, clean, with all the facilities... a nice place where we met people from Italy, Germany and New Zealand , we decided to cook together a huge tipical spanish omelet!!! We also took a walk around beatiful Estella despite of the pain in our legs!
The Englishman who went up a mountain ...

... at 1057 metres. From here it was more or less downhill; that is apart from two more climbs of 912 and 801 metres! But before I reached the first of these the temperature had dropped considerably and as I was no longer working uphill I became cold very quickly. As soon as I found a suitable low overhanging roof I stopped beneath it and whipped off my wet clothes, exchanging them for dry ones with four layers on top! (Thanks for the ...

I'm too fat to run away from Bulls..

... The Basques, apparently, used to expose themselves whenever they got excited about anything. Exactly what medieval Basques had to get excited about, apart from each other's donkeys, I really don't know. I can just imagine a group of French pilgrims on a holy trail suddenly finding themselves confronted by a group of really happy Basques running round with their trousers down screaming about how happy they are they haven't got the bubonic plague.. Running of the Bulls...what a mess.

... all three of us went to grab some tapas. And oh my, were they great! Here in San Sebastian almost every restaurant/bar lays their tapas out on the bar, so it almost looks like a giant buffet. You just grab a plate and pick up all the taps you desire. Our guide books mentions how great the food is in Basque country, and I believe it! Really, the food is great here. Tapas and Sangria, mmmmm. Afterward we went for Gelato, which seems to be popular ...

The running of the bulls

A couple of Aussies, were taking their car into town, so they offered to take us in. We jumped out of the car, and as we walked to the town square, we bought a load of sangria to see us through , and some bottles of Cava, cheap Spanish champagne for one pound a bottle. We arrived in the square, it was about half full. Then the people started to arrive. With them, they brought more Cava, flour, eggs, tomato sauce and mustard. We did not understand at first, but ...
