Happy Veterans Day from Japan! We were super excited to have a weekday off that was not also a Japanese holiday or pouring rain. The top 3 recommended day trips from Tokyo are Kamakura (~15 minutes from our house), Nikko (last month's big excursion) and Hakone, today's destination. The most recommended one day outing in Hakone is the scenic loop around the area using a train, cable car, boat, and ropeway gondola. This is the best way to see a pretty vast area in one ...

... guests seem to be here to enjoy the onsen facilities, you only have to site in the foyer - 90% are roaming around in yukatas (cottons dressing gown). The surrounding gardens are beautiful with 2 waterfalls and a small shrine. Cam and Omi had a soak in the hot tub and Celie is amused because when you open the toilet door the toilet lid automatically puts itself up and makes a sound like 'hi'. We area about to go to dinner, not sure what to expect but we're very excited. Until ...

... Fuji. After the rest, we climbed stairs down to Yama Futatsu, the middle of the island and what is believed to be the top of a collapsed cave. More shops and restaurants lined the sidewalk. Many had breath-taking vistas and delicious smells drifted outside. I vowed to return to this charming island on a day without the long lines and choked paths. After passing the Okutsunomiya Shrine, the stairs led us to the backside of the island. The ferry line snaked to ...
