... The most sobering realization was just how similar these people were to us. Sure, there are obvious differences, but in reality we haven't come 'so far' in 2000 years. Tomorrow morning we catch a train for Sorrento. We will be there for 4 nights. We will take day trip to Amalfi, but we will not be staying at the hotel there. Joe and I decided that our stay on the Amalfi coast will be more enjoyable if we do not change hotels , so we extended our stay at the hotel in Sorrento, and cancelled the one in Amalfi. Just wanted to let everyone know in case you needed to reach us.

From Positano we did a couple of day trips to Capri, a small island about a 35 minute ferry ride of the coast and a trip to Pompeii to the ancient Roman ruins ...

... umbrella and raincoat got soaked through to our underwear! Next day it rained hard too but did not mind a lazy day with no sightseeing. The city of Naples has a few nice areas but is a really dirty city and one day of sightseeing was plenty. Seeing Naples and Mt. Vesuvius from a distance is the best way to see them but south of Naples and the Almafi coast is not to be missed.

Capri...beautiful...rocky...amazing gardens. We met our guide Peppe (which seems to be a popular name around here) and took a 50 minute hydofoil/jet boat ride to Marina Grande, a touristy old port lined with colorful fisherman's houses and gardens. We toured Villa San Michele and the view was something....the Gerber (of Gerber Baby Food) mansion, the Krupps mansions were all up ...

Buon Giorno! This morning we woke up in Napoli or commonly known as Naples! This would be the port where you could take tours to Mt. Vesuvius or the ruins of Pompeii, the famed Roman city that was buried by volcanic ash after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD. Or, tours were available to the beautiful coastal areas of Sorrento and Capri! Today, we opted to remain in Naples and tour the city ...

When I was researching the ferry schedule for Capri from Naples, one of the hits was a guy who found it, and I quote, "grotesquely difficult" to get there. I am happy to report that it really wasn't even a little bit difficult. (I'm kind of curious how he made it so hard.) We did have to walk back and forth between several ticket windows at the marina until we found the appropriate company (Caremar), but that was it. And in the parking lot ...
