... however, the surrounding countryside is pretty - vineyards everywhere and distant snow covered mountains. We detoured to Desenzano on the banks of Lake Garda. Clearly a summer holiday town but a beautiful town situated on the shores of a huge lake. The water is crystal clear. Lunch at local trattoria consisting of local trout - scrumptious, a walk around town, purchase of veggies and fruit from local markets and off to the autostrada. ...

Whilst the GLW was sorting things out in Red in the hotel car park, a large black BMW parked alongside made a dreadful hash of reversing out of its space, and managed to scrape along the back of Red. ... and the rest of us catch a local ferry across to Isola Madre. The island doesn't disappoint- the gardens are beautiful with huge camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom and beautiful Japanese maples with fresh new leaves. There's a huge red weeping maple that is just gorgeous! This island is a lot quieter than the other 2 and it is lovely catching glimpses across the lake through the trees, back to Stresa.
