Florence, Italy gloryb
... the restaurant so I could get back to our hotel room and be sick in my “own” bathroom. (I know you wanted to know that!) Ugh. I had a rough few hours there before finally collapsing into bed. Murray’s better, so now I’m worse – that’s the way it always works, isn’t it?! At least maybe I’m getting a quick bug like he had, so then I don’t have to blame it on the half-glass of wine and I can give that another try soon!
... t know if its like the wind or whatever but we went down so quick the pressure was so bad in my ears and then like bank turned. The italian man sitting next to me and I were like both looking around just trying to figure out if the pilot was serious. Luckly, I landed ok and then you had to walk off the plane to get on a bus that toook you 2 feet to the airport door. Which, its the tinniest little airport, so cute. Casey was waiting for me outside the gate- which I have to ...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy sarahmarie... priceless and incredible statues. As the kids pointed out, they were all buck naked.
Though I am a total art ignoramous, there were several works that made a particular impression on me.
First, there was Donatello's David. This statue is of David from the Bible. He was buck naked like everyone, though I'm not quite sure why. Anyway, the bronze statue is something like 600 years old, and really graceful and emotive. And it was there, the original ...
... was perfection, truly. I managed to get one photo off before an angry looking woman tersely told me there were no photos allowed. Oops. I didn't see the sign. You'll notice her coming straight at me in the photos. Wandering closer to it, it became even more entrancing... the detail of the veins in his hand, the muscle tone, his deep set eyes. It is truly a remarkable piece of art. From every angle he changes and draws you in and it's ...
Florence, Italy mollyandmikeuk... t get a picture of the front because it was beautiful. The inside structure of the roof was just as beautiful as the rest of the church. It was all intricately painted wood timber. The tombs of people where all over, including the floor where D.O.M. was written on them. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it is probably similar to R.I.P but it was funny anyways. The Piazza Della Signoria was next with the huge (kinda ugly if you ask me) town hall ...
Florence, Tuscany, Italy christineraymo... very cool. We then stopped at an Olive Oil mill. When this was set up we thought it would be a large plant that we would tour, see how olive oil is made, and sample some of the products. No way. This was a small family run mill called La Macina, where we were greeted by the owner and given a private tour of the small operation. After a short video (which really helped) we did get to sample some of their olive oil. Now Marilena has been ...
