High Atlas and Magical Marrakech

A travel blog entry by brownsltd

... We were sad to say goodbye to our travelling companions and to Said whom we had grown so fond of. Said was simply an exceptional guide, he welcomed us into his country and showed us the best of Morocco. His warmth, passion and sense of humour added another dimension to our experience and we thank him for that.

As we closed the door of the riad and headed out to the airport we reflected on how we had enjoyed every day and every experience in Morocco, as ...

Train to Tangier

... and pillows, the individual compartments also had doors you could close, and the toilet had toilet paper, soap and a hand dryer. As I write this now it seems like a really silly thing to get excited about but after 2 months in India we have come to expect nothing from anywhere and always carry our own toilet paper and hand soap. Each couchette compartment had 4 beds in it and so we shared ours with a local man who spent most of his night not in the ...

Marrakech madness

... the southern city of Marrakech and the coastal city of Tangier all in a few short days. I still don't know how we managed to fit it all in, but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. It's the type of adventure you only embark on once in your life, and I was happy I got to see so much of Morocco before leaving. I am so glad I got to share Morocco with Valerie, after spending six months working in a country with a culture so different from home. I don't think ...

Out of Africa ( south)

A travel blog entry by jkjohnson

... we have explored, Africa is a place where the beauty of the natural world overwhelms, catches you in the throat. You enter a transformative space that fosters an awareness of your astonishing insignificance on the planet. There is a touch of melancholy as we jet north. However, we are extremely fortunate, unfairly privileged and immensely grateful to have glimpsed the southern reaches of this magnificent ...

    Quel gachis!

Quel gachis !

    Don't go here

We booked a double room for three nights of relaxation after spending three nights in the medina. Our disappointment started when we arrived and were told that our room was in the hotel over the road. We checked into the other hotel and asked why we were being dumped in their hotel. The response was that the Kenzi had overbooked and that a French tour group took precedence over ourselves. Obviously unhappy about this, we questioned the Kenzi over why we were moved to be told that there were 'technical difficulties' which they could not explain to us. At no stage was an apology or proper explanation offered and their service was non existent. While the hotel looked okay, it is by no means a five star, and probably belongs on the Costa Brava.

    Reasonable quality

We have just returned from a one week stay in the Kenzi Semiramis Hotel and are actually pleased to be back home.

Dismal service - 2 star hotel at the most

My company had a workshop in this hotel, where I had stayed as a tourist 6 years earlier. I was quite surprised to see how the service and the food had gotten so bad. The staff at the reception desk were extremely rude at all times, the buffet was simple and repetitive, the WiFi in the lobby worked on and off and bathrooms were unkept. On the day before we were scheduled to leave, the hotel administration informed us that they had overbooked and asked us to leave the hotel or share rooms!!! They said that they preferred to give the rooms to tourists than to conference people like us! Stay away from this hotel, if you can, and go to others like the Royal Mirage (ex Sheraton).

    Good Value

Having read the January 06 comments a few days before travelling to Marrakech we were very concerned about what we might find. This hotel is fine to stay at and I would not hesitate in recommending it.

The hotel was very clean, the staff were helpful and the pool was lovely.Very good value for money.
