Take a ride on the Marrakech Express!

Today it was Hazel Jean's trun to write the journal entry, so this is her view of our trip to Marrakech Morocco.

Tuesday - The Ryan Air flight out of Pisa - A whole new experience. Of course, there was pushing and yelling to develop a line. The flight attendants seemed to have a different idea of what a line meant than the ladies from …

... and pillows, the individual compartments also had doors you could close, and the toilet had toilet paper, soap and a hand dryer. As I write this now it seems like a really silly thing to get excited about but after 2 months in India we have come to expect nothing from anywhere and always carry our own toilet paper and hand soap. Each couchette compartment had 4 beds in it and so we shared ours with a local man who spent most of his night not in the ...

... just before 1800 for our briefing (as per our itinerary). Here we met fellow tour participants, Rachel, Peter and David. It was 2030 when we decided that we had waited long enough and everyone was getting hungry. Rachel and Peter also needed to dash to Carrefour to pick up some food before it closed. There was still no word from our tour organisers so we thought we would all catch up over brekky.

Rachel and Peter are both retired dentists who gave up ...

1531. My Last Moroccan Hike

... As planned, I'm able to follow the riverbed through the gorge instead of having to walk along the highway which snakes along the cliffside... much more pleasant... And finally, after passing through one more village, I reach Tahanoute... I reconnect with the hike I did here 4 years ago... and I fulfill my Quest: An uninterrupted trail of footprints from Marrakech to Toubkal... and across the ...

... my leadership skills are put to the test. If I were alone, I'd climb down the cliff. But there's 10 of us, and the risk of someone getting hurt is pretty high.

Suddenly I have flashbacks of when I was 13 years old, hiking with Pablo in the mountains of central Mexico. My pet crow flow down to the bottom of a canyon, and I suggested that we look for a way down to follow it. Pablo went first... fell down the cliff, breaking his arm, nose and both his pelvis ...

    Quel gachis!

Quel gachis !

    Don't go here

We booked a double room for three nights of relaxation after spending three nights in the medina. Our disappointment started when we arrived and were told that our room was in the hotel over the road. We checked into the other hotel and asked why we were being dumped in their hotel. The response was that the Kenzi had overbooked and that a French tour group took precedence over ourselves. Obviously unhappy about this, we questioned the Kenzi over why we were moved to be told that there were 'technical difficulties' which they could not explain to us. At no stage was an apology or proper explanation offered and their service was non existent. While the hotel looked okay, it is by no means a five star, and probably belongs on the Costa Brava.

    Reasonable quality

We have just returned from a one week stay in the Kenzi Semiramis Hotel and are actually pleased to be back home.

Dismal service - 2 star hotel at the most

My company had a workshop in this hotel, where I had stayed as a tourist 6 years earlier. I was quite surprised to see how the service and the food had gotten so bad. The staff at the reception desk were extremely rude at all times, the buffet was simple and repetitive, the WiFi in the lobby worked on and off and bathrooms were unkept. On the day before we were scheduled to leave, the hotel administration informed us that they had overbooked and asked us to leave the hotel or share rooms!!! They said that they preferred to give the rooms to tourists than to conference people like us! Stay away from this hotel, if you can, and go to others like the Royal Mirage (ex Sheraton).

    Good Value

Having read the January 06 comments a few days before travelling to Marrakech we were very concerned about what we might find. This hotel is fine to stay at and I would not hesitate in recommending it.

The hotel was very clean, the staff were helpful and the pool was lovely.Very good value for money.
