... illegally. Very sombre and chilling to think this was only 23 years ago. Leaving the checkpoint we hopped on the bus to pass through again some areas and then headed to the train station. We also saw the church that was left in ruins since WW2, its steeple blown off and mangled. I am glad the Berlin left it as a reminder as too often rebuilding sanitises history and we need to remember as Berlin also makes us remember the wall was there. Back at Potsdam we were glad ...

... was the aquarium! I love sea creatures and reptiles and stuff. Oh man. And I saw white wolves kinda close up. Lots of monkeys! MANDRILL BABBOONS! I took a huge chunk of photos Monday and Tuesday(Not Zoo)... ..... Megan's mom just told me that last night they had to shut down the S-Bahn because they found an old WWII unexploded British bomb. D: HOLY ****! Anyway, yeah! The zoo was amazing! I got some real good photos in ...

Day 4- Mar. 18

Today I went to go see the Berlin wall memorial site. I got on one of the Tour busses. The bus tour took about 4 hours because it covered pretty much all of the wall. I learned that the wall went up in 1961, and finally in 1989 the berlin wall was torn down, to reunite east and west Germany. The first time in thirty years. After that long ride I had to get some food so I went to a place called ...

Berlin

Day 1 The Berlin train station was by far the most impressive yet. It was built for the 2006 World Cup and is more like a large modern mall with a train station underneath. The weather was not nearly as impressive as the station. It was cold and windy with a little bit of rain mixed in. The directions to our pension were to take the S-Bahn (raised train) and then switch to the U-Bahn (Subway). We were surprised ...

... than their regional architectural styles, and their place in history. Just outside of Potsdam (then the Alsen Colony) is where the German Impressionist Max Lieberman built his summer home. The house and garden, which Lieberman carefully collaborated on with his architect (the same architect Baumgarten who built the villa where the great Wannsee Conference took place), became the inspiration for most of the paintings towards the end of his ...

... to Ubahn at Potsdamer Platz but at least I didn't have to walk too much in the morning;) When I came to the office neither of my supervisors was there so I sat terrified for 20 minutes-fortunately I had only one phone call then and I somehow managed to survive that;) After they came the day passed by pretty quickly-I was still sortig documents, running all over offices to bring some stuff and writing some address list and invitations for a party in the embassy;) In the ...

Berlin- Ups and Downs

... a parrot. A huge parrot that had feathers only on its head and wings, the rest being wrinkled old skin, much like on a plucked chicken. And the parrot screamed. Relentlessly screamed a high bloodcurdling sound while the old man and woman argued and he puffed an acrid cigar. Finally, he takes me down a dark hall, filled with "Clown" paintings to a dingy room with a small bed and dirty shower stall covered in mold- the toilet to be shared somewhere down a dark hall. This, this COULD be ...

World Cup Summary

... able to hop off the stretcher and run back onto the field as if nothing was wrong! If I was ref, I think that I would make the player stay on the sidelines for at least 5mins; icing his injury, and perhaps getting some stitches or maybe getting a shot of Demerol for the pain, just to make it worth the doctor´s time. Maybe it is just me, but sometimes I think that soccer is more about acting then actually playing! PS: We´ll attach pictures as soon as we get to a better computer

Berlin - Germany

We arrived in Berlin late afternoon and did a driving tour. My first impression was how i could feel the history everywhere in the city, especially the recent history with the Berlin Wall. We stopped off at the East Side Gallery which is a length of the wall that is covered with paintings. They were amazing and it was so weird to be walking alongside the wall and seeing all ...
