We stayed in town this weekend, figured we'd catch Stuttgart's version of Oktoberfest (the second largest in Germany) before it ended. And by now, we know how to buy a day ticket from the bus driver and get ourselves around town. We're probably slaughtering everything we say, but we're starting to be understood and at least get what we need. Frau Montes made sure we learned to say please and thank you every time, excuse me helps too . . .<br ...

Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany ktchris... and the gardens are really nice. I think the Basel zoo is better as far as animals go, but this one isn't bad for variety. I did not like the small areas where the animals are kept though. It seemed much too small for large wild animals.

After the zoo we walked around the city center and stopped in a beer garden for a little relaxation. We managed to walk around the New Palace and Palace Square and then went to the ...
Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany travelingdivaAfter a more than two hour delay in Dallas we finally took off for Germany. We arrived in Frankfort about 9:20 A.M. (3 AM to our bodies). We were met at the airport, rode a nice tour bus for two hours, had lunch (liver sausage sandwiches cucumbers and strawberries) After a tour of the town, we had a combined rehearsal with the German students and then were met by our hosts who took us home to dinner and a good night rest.
Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany macfiveCaught a night train from Vienna and arrived in Stuttgardt in the morning. Had a great day wandering and seeing the sights. Yet another map from yet another tourist info place. More statues and old buildings (Boring right? Not by a long shot). Still walking around wide-eyed like kids at Disneyland.
Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany danandroz... other herbs. They can be fried or cooked in a broth to make soup. I particularly like Maultaschen in soup. It's a Swabian specialty and delicious. After lunch we walked back to the car and headed to Bad Urach. Originally I had wanted to visit the ruins of Hohenurach. (Okay, for you non-German speakers, the compound Hohen- means "upper" or "high", so Hohenstaufen, Hohenneuffen and Hohenurach are all places that you have to climb to get to.) However, when we got to Bad Urach I realized ...
Stuttgart, Germany harrellrl... the character of the house I saw in the old pictures. Tante Lydia also took me to the cemetery where my great-grandparents and my great-uncle (Opa and Tante Lydia's younger brother) were buried. They don't rest here these days-in Germany, burial space is limited and at a premium, so plots are rented out for 20 years and after that, the bodies are interred. Stuttgart for me was a culinary extravaganza. All the German ...
Stuttgart, Germany w.zahn... minutes later we got off at the next stop. Just how far can a train travel in that time you ask? Well it can go at least 5 to 7 kilometers. How do we know you ask??? Well let me tell you! Our heroine was getting quite impatient on the train and when we got off, she wanted to walk back to the previous station. The next train was leaving in maybe 20 minutes..... could we make it??? Well we started walking back and opted to follow the tracks, as we did ...
Stuttgart, Germany monkeytoesIn Germany the city of Stuttgart is well-known for HipHop music and cars. The country's most famous HipHop group "Die Fantastischen Vier" formed here.
