    The magical Fairy cave

    Do these places really exist?!

It took nearly 2 hours to get deep into the Borneo countryside on 2 public buses from Kuching and a 20 minute walk to the cave. We decided to go with Alison from yesterdays Rafflesia trip and her mate Chris from her hostel. When you get to the cave you have to climb up a high tower of stairs to get to the cave entrance which was a bit knackering but...

    Rafflesia's really really smell bad

Rafflesia's really do smell bad and they are also extremely rare and jealously protected by most Malaysian naturalists. We failed to cut through the conspiracy back in the Cameron Highlands and actually see one there, so now was the time to do it and firmly tick that box! A group of us from the hostel got up uber early to grab the 2 buses to Gunung Gading National Park just near Lundu in an effort to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Rafflesia's and a ...

    What a day

A travel blog entry by 2smartiesabroad on Jun 25, 2012

Today was one of those days that you just want to get over with and then never really think about again. We wanted a change of scenery and maybe two chilled out days at the beach so we were recommended to go to Samatan, on the west coast. We tried that, it was not good. We took a taxi to the central bus station, then a two hour bus to Lundu where we ...

    Heroes in a Half Shell!

We pre-booked a tour to Sarawak's own answer to Turtle Island - Satang Island which lies to the North, just off the coast of Kuching division, a week ago, and today it was time to collect. The total cost of the package was half that of a similar 2 day/1 night package at it's more famous cousin, but there is less of a guarantee of seeing turtles lay eggs on this particular island, so it might end up being a complete waste of time

Our package included a transfer to ...

KFC For Lunch (Kebun Freerange Chicken)

One of the advantages of staying at The Kebun is that there is never any shortage of free range poultry for lunch & dinner. The star of today's blog entry was served up for lunch less than 3 hours after slaughter. That has to be the freshest chicken we have ever eaten, and it was delicious. The photos show the end-end process, don't look if you are squeamish about how animals turn into delicious food!
