Reception staff have no English so if (like me) that is your only language you're SOL on getting anything really useful out of them. They have horrible wifi, you might be able to connect, you get kicked out regularly and it wants you to sign in and it's entirely in Chinese characters and the staff can't or won't help with that. You can't access much anyway as the government blocks a lot of sites so unless you know work arounds, again SOL. The toilet paper comes in the smallest rolls possible but housekeeping is really good about giving you a lot if you are nice to them. Beds are hard but clean, bathrooms are clean. Location is good. There is working AC, hot water and fridges once you figure it out.

          Cooler but bright day.

A day to ourselves so I returned to the former British Consulate to take a photo and then walked to the main mosque followed by a walk around the alleyways of the Old Town. There is little of it left with a new square outside the mosque and new shopping parades and tourist shops squeezing the old quarter.

          Another hot and sunny day.

Went to the famous Sunday Market to see the animal market where sheep, goats, cattle and donkeys/mules were being bought and sold. Not as exotic as expected; maybe due to being relocated on the outskirts of town.

Walked through the relatively new covered bazaar (Patrick and Karen said that it was …

Cloudy and cooler morning but hot and sunny in the afternoon. Continued driving along the Northern Silk Road.

Passed through Aksu which was typical of a lot of North China with new power-stations, pylons, cement works and piles of coal.

Very dusty with a mini dust-storm at one stage.

In the afternoon, passed through an …

Kyrgyz Random Fact: the proper name for goat polo is buzkashi.

FYI: yesterday was the 55th day of the 110 day tour that I am on with Dragoman. I am now on the downward slide of the vacation…. But I still have a bit of time because of Thailand beaches at the end. Yay …
