And voila.... a river out of nowhere

... over 1.5 million tourists each year as it is the source of a natural spring. It's wierd seeing a fast flowing river and then walking 50 metres "upstream" and there only being a trickle.. and then a bit further and no water... nothing but a big cliff straight up!

The town itself is nestled in a valley and is particularly pretty at dusk when rocks take on the colours of the sunset ...

France sucks at Halloween

... in devil ears, 1 batman, 1 Spiderman, a copule dudes in masks, 2 girls with just some random fake blood on their face, 3 poorly represented Village people, and a guy who we think was Peter Pan, but he had cardboard fairy wings so we're not sure. All in all, Halloween ended up being a pretty fun night, but we certainly missed being home for this day! Now we are off to the Rhone Valley for some great wine... in a CAR! Stay tuned.

Amorous or Foolhardy?

... write her address and draw a map I realized that something was terribly wrong. She drew a map of Corse (Corsca) - a little French island I the Medeterranian. We were headed to Corse, not Italy! The victim of not having an Italian map and too little internet time. Who knew? Propriano certainly sounds Italian to me…

We weighed our options:
1) continue on and cycle across Corse (2700m altitude ...

Rome...?

... and Rhone. Built in 90 AD it’s hard to imagine all the events that have taken place in this building. Walking around and around, I tried to imagine it filled with 20 000 screaming fans as gladiators ripped apart animals, but it was hard. From Medieval times to the 1830’s, it was bricked up and used as a fortified city. 212 housed and 2 churches made their home ...

... not know how.
Perhaps they’ll listen now.

But what a sad story of a man impassioned by his art, yet rejected by all around him. To the point where only his brother befriended and supported him. Only selling 2 paintings during a lifetime, and even those that are given away ended up on hen-house doors and shot up by young passersby ...

Over a month in...

... As is usual here, it's been an uphill struggle trying to organise it all, but it seems that all paperwork is fianlly done, mainly thanks to our legendary tutor here, who bought us a coffe and told us "ze word for zis yearrr iz 'frrreeedomm"! So on to the studying now! I gave a presentation a few weeks ago which went really well, and the lecturer said was 'impeccable'. However, I don't think all my work will carry on in this direction, so I will make my excuses now: the ...

A day in Provence

... good quality. This is definitely a possibility for future years. From La Grande Motte, I started out toward Arles where I hoped to have lunch. Along the way I stopped briefly at Aigues Mortes just a few minutes into the drive. This impressive Medieval city surrounded by an imposing wall was in 1244 the departure port for the 7th crusade, called by Louis IX (later canonized to become Saint Louis) to liberate "the tomb of Christ". Some 60,000 men and 20,000 ...

... screaming in English to the driver to stop- it didn't work, so they went up to the driver and by gesticulation, forced her to stop. Karma. Gotta love it. Once back in Aix, I walked back into town with my new friends, and could they ever chatter! We parted at the Great Fountain- and now I am caught up on my diary. I also spent an hour in the internet café and figured out how to download pictures, so if, and only if, you are interested, you can go back to prior ...
