... trees that grow in water, if you haven't seen one you should google it they are neat. and there was a bunch of crabs and Phillip got to see a crab and he had never seen one that big before. Then we went to the beach! We literally got 20 minutes for playing/swimming but it was still fun :) the indian ocean is brutal! The waves are huge!
And that night a monkey tried to come into our ...
... that I haven't met a lot of white South African so far. The only ones I saw were having a brunch in a restaurant I had my breakfast. By the way it was an absolute nightmare trying to find a place to eat that was not KFC, McDonald’s, Nando’s, Chicken Licken bla bla bla. It is sad to see that they have the same **** as we do. Eventually I spotted a restaurant that did not belong to some sort of chain but once I sat down and looked at the menu it was very much ...
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa alexhuchet... did not look like a tramp just lying in garbage – bizarre!
We drove through a place called Mthatha in the Homelands I think. It looked a lot more like what you’d expect Africa to look like. The place was heaving with people and it was very run down.
We arrived in Durban at about 9.30 (a German girl from the bus was stopping there as well) and my first impression was not great ...
We arrived in Durban late on Sunday night. Our blog updates haven't been too regular lately because internet connections in South Africa are usually very slow and expensive. We've had far better connections in little rural towns in the middle of nowhere in Vietnam! So were stockpiling entries and posting them whenever possible. Anyway Sunday night we went for a huge meal in Spurs Steakhouse with Heidi. One of the nice things about South Africa is that food is cheap and good, our ...
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa alandrach... for the semester! The program lasts about another week and then I am meeting my friend Kendall in Cape Town for a fun week before heading back to the states. I'm getting back on the 21st. Not sure if I'll write any more entries after this one, so if not- thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing everyone when I get back. I'll have tons more stories to tell and about a thousand pictures to show if you are interested! Salani kahle!
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa laurenharden... travellers. The rock formations and twisted strata indicate turbulent geological processes that span a 1,000-million year history. Cape Town is the fourth largest city in South Africa. It had been enriched by the Dutch, British, and Cape Malay (Muslims from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India who were brought to the Cape from 1658 onwards by the Dutch East India Company as slaves or ...
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa rroeschI write this well after the event, so for more information on the project itself, check www.cascoland.com. Meeting all the other Casco artists (mostly Dutch and most had worked on previous cascoland projects so knew one another) I sensed what an interesting time was ahead ... didn't sense what a testing time it would also be, not least to remember everyone's name and how to pronounce it. With about 20 of us 'internationals' taking over a ...
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa camo... about them. I get soaked, then I dry off slowly in the sun that follows. Well, this time the storms were screwing with the plane (yes there is only 1) departing from Livingstone. I had two short flights, with an hour between to make the connection. On paper, it looked good, but in reality I don't think it would every work. So the plane leaves late, and I arrive at Johannesburg with ½ hour to make my ...
Durban, South Africa robthebruce... not bore you with the politics. I arrived in Durban gutted because I had not managed to convince anyone to come with me on a day tour to Lesotho (pronouned Les-oo-too), most who were going that way wanted to spend more than a day. I arrived at 10 o'clock, tired and a little cranky to find a note left for me by the company I'd been pestering for the last week to see if any other people has booked onto the tour, and sure enough, three young British lads ...
Durban, South Africa tiffbrookeSeeing as it was getting awfully cold in the mountains, Kelly and I decided to make a run for the coast. We had heard that Durban was having nice weather. It's a city of about 3 million on the Indian Ocean that I had never heard of before we got here. It's got a sub tropical climate so I would suppose it's a lot like Florida. Except for Cubans, they have Indians. After a fairly long day of driving, we finally arrive in Durban. I'm still not used to driving on the ...
