... at the doctors tomorrow at 10, until then its home to bed. Up at 7, sit in tent updating blog. Oliver watching ruby. Breakfast. Lay by pool, go for swim. Marvel at the view. Oliver in the little bar area on wifi. Managed to speak to Mum who was on webcam but I couldn't get ours to work. Probably a good thing otherwise I would have felt the need to go wash my hair and put on makeup!! Not sure if I like the thought of someone being able to see me ...
eMbo, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa oliveramber... and next Tuesday morning, when I catch the bus to Jo'burgh after which-on the same night- catch my flight. All this flying, buses and trains is really starting to make me feel like more a nomad. Oh well, it's the path I choose right now so will embrace it. Of course I am not too happy about cutting this trip short. There were many things I still wanted to do, people I wanted to see and spend more time with my sister. But I guess at the end of the day, when ...
Pennington, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa nomadixWhile I was diving at Sodwana Bay last week, I was told that all the sharks were at the Aliwal Shoal at Umkomaas. I made a quick call and was told that the diving conditions were great so I booked a few dives. Umkomaas is a small town and nearly everything here is centred around the diving. The highlight of the 4 dives I did was to a location named Cathedral. It was a large cave with an open top and ...
Umkomaas, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa rayj... out a tiger shark two the rest of the group. (for those who have no idea what it means i did 5 things at once that required my full attention) the last dive I admit was fun so much fun that i started my safety stop withe less than the safe amount of air. (25bar) the good thing about umkomas vs Shelly beach is there is a night life scene not getting board. until next time Dolev
Umkomas, South Africa dolev.raviv... I got a few sets after a while. The standard of surfing was high and the locals were pushing deep behind the takeoff rock and surfing right past it. I have surfed here for the past three days putting in plenty of surf time before a few weeks of no waves in the desert countries ahead. Mandy has been very patient but thankfully the weather has been perfect, about 28 degrees and no wind at all so she has been happy lazing on the ...
Winkle Spruit, South Africa peteandmandy... novel as a feminist piece, the author turned out to be very attached to some patriarchal aspects of Zulu culture. Some students got pretty offended by some things she said, so there was definite tension in the room. One of the girls in our group is the head of the womens' rights organization on campus, so it was amusing to see her reactions. While I do think some of her arguments were flawed, I think ...
Durban, South Africa voyageuse... to tend to the crops and cattle. The house was surprisingly warm as the oven was in the middle of the house and as it was used it also heated the stones under the floor. The lady in the house cooked some traditional bread for us and we sampled the local brew - unfortunately not very nice. We then visited the highest pub in Africa, where it was so cold, the beers needed no refrigeration! We arrived in Durban for some much needed sun, relaxation and to watch the Wallabies play the ...
16 days in, South Africa peteanddee... to the noisy Tekweni hostel in Durban, we were put in what was a very comfortable room, but from the outside it looked very much like a garden shed to me! We met back up with Liam and James before heading out to the flee market on the water front. There after much searching I finally decided on a ...
Durban, South Africa jonclark2000... all to myself:)) and have a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean. This place also borders on a nature reserve. It is so peaceful here. We had a huge thunderstorm last night, and it was cool sitting outside and watching the lightening light up the sea. The thunder and rain sang me to sleep. It is so nice to hear nothing but the breeze blowing through the trees, the crickets chirping and the frogs ...
