Spectacular...right on the lake with a wonderful water side dining. The lunch was very good, service was good. Room is fantastic, the lake view and patio is wonderful. Clean and quiet.

We decided to take a short break from Vienna and travel into the Austrian Alps to Hallstatt. The journey involved an intercity train to Attnang, which was pretty boring - the landscape was largely flat and a mix of towns, light industry and farms, but the regional train from Attnang south via Bad Ischel was stunning - a mix of impossibly rugged …

We do go from one extreme to another. This town is super tiny. It's here because salt used to mean big money and they had a salt mine. We will ride another funicular up the side of a mountain (a recurring theme with us) tomorrow to tour the mine. It was closed by the time we got to it today.
We left early and walked to the underground station …

We have just come back from a lovely trip up to Lake Konigssee, and a boat trip down the lake to St Bartholoma. The lake is nestled between the mountains, and is 602m above sea level with an average depth of 150m. It is the cleanest lake in Germany, with the water being pure enough to be classified ...

... of Salzburg . Truth be told it's a great idea if someone checks the opening times of such places. We got off the bus at the wrong stop, walked the 1km up the Alps to the gorge to discover it was in fact closed. To make the most out of our journey we then proceeded to climb down to the gorge off the side of ...

They didn't talk to me, even when I said hi, nothing. They did however talk to Marion when I left the room.. *****es.
