A few times each year (usually pre-Christmas, pre-Easter, and around the time of the new school year), the ferry company that usually runs one of the ferries between St. Kitts and Nevis runs a “shopping ferry” to St. Maarten. It had been a lot of fun doing the memory lane wander but the day was getting hot and we had an “all onboard” time looming for our cruise ship so we fronted a beach bar offering icy cold guavaberry coladas heavily laced with rum and enjoyed a last taste of St Maarten.

Naturally there was a queue to get on the ferry, but it was orderly and moved briskly as the town deployed its entire flotilla of ferries each of which can take like 60 passengers or more.
