End of term. 4 months in the UK

... form 2&3 choir is a great group who are very keen. Boys changing voices adds an element of difficulty to finding suitable repertoire.

I have enjoyed the teaching and the challenges but much prefer a balanced load of classes, ensembles and lessons if given a choice.

It’s nice that Rhonda and I work at the same place. Some days lunch together and then off in to the city for a coffee. Manchester is not as big as Melbourne or ...

Parky isn't it!

... few people will stay with us for along time - sharing stories from home, sharing their food and enjoying thier fantastic smiles. The joy on their faces and their excitement as they entered Goa (for the first time) was infectious - nine hours on a train which passed far too quickly..... Joss, the thirty year old who graduates next year has promised to keep in touch...... we hope he does and who's to say we can't be there when he graduates in april?????

On to Goa and to stay with our ...

Day 2 - The Reamer

... the gorge up the gorge” debacle followed by kilometres of what, bog? on top of a mountain?!! where the hell were we?!! Also, damn the reservoir where, having run out of water, Ryan requested that I wade in and try and get some water for boiling. Cold! Muddy! Undrinkable! Squidgy!

Day 1 - The Ball Breaker

... back for me while I got something out of my pack, he didn’t, and the sheep almost got me.

See that Campsite?

After almost finishing the part of the Pennine that I call “The Ball Breaker” Ryan points down the mountain to a little campsite in the distance. It was far away but hope sprang back into my heart until he said, “See that campsite? Our campsite is only 2km from there.” YEARGH!!!

Day 1 of the trip

Well the day has finally arrived! The alarm was set for 6.00am but we were both awake before it went off. After a quick breakfast we were on the bike heading for a rendevous at Colin's house in Halling in the rain!

After a quick cup of tea, Leigh up turned on his Triumph Tiger and it was time to set off for the Marsden to meet Lyndsey & David & guess what it ...

Bye Bye Brum / Madness in Manchester

... of disco balls, then went to a completely retro bar where I don't think they played anything beyond about 1970. Scarily Amy and I knew alot of the music - prob thanks to our parents - so we were grooving away until my heels got the better of me and fatigue and the drinking wall hit the others.

Currently in final packing mode (part done) and last minute things in the UK before I leave for London tomorrow on the next stage of this adventure.

Ok......so the nerves are kind of kicking in, actually no I was more nervous last weekend. But now I am just VERY excited. Cannot wait to see what it's going to be like. The anticipation is killing me more than anything, the not knowing. the completely different ...

London to Stonehenge

... people, the mystery surrounding it and the sheer size of the stones just makes you feel insignificant. Stonehenge is definitely one of the greatest sights I have ever seen. The day before they had a huge festival to celebrate midsummer, and apparently there were 36,000 people there camping out to see the sunrise as it hit the stones. We were very lucky that there was lots of traffic and we arrived at stonehenge late because we got there right before the Druid Order did their ...

Home!! No No No!!!

... freedom to get up on any given day and point at a map and say, 'let's go there today' was something that really took a while to sink in. But soon enough, this privilege itself, was what made the trip so amazing. Going form the routine of home, to the unknown and unplanned, is a strange but great thing. Even the flight tickets themselves, allowed us so much freedom to change the dates. This meant that we didn't have to leave a place prematurely, if we found ...

research in Sheffield

I worked in the archives in Sheffield all day. I was intending to look at: diaries as well as the Cannon Hall estate account and employment records to see if there was any record of my ancestor working for them. Further, I wanted to see if there were any school records for the 1773 periods as I know there was a school in Cawthorne at that time (Church Hall was used as a school with the school teacher living above it). I also wanted to see if there were any photos or drawings of ...
