Journey's End

Today we flew back to Kota Kinabalu from Sandakan. Apparently we should be been able to see the top of mount Kinabalu as we flew past, but either we were looking out of the wrong side of the plane or the top was covered in cloud. We stayed at the Seaside Travellers Inn which provided a nice setting in which to relax after our tour.

Asian Adventure

In Malaysia now... We spent four hours on a very comfortable and air-conditioned bus from the lovely Singapore to Malacca this morning and have had a wonderful time since we got here. The city is so cultually diverse and has everything you can imagine from South East Asia squished into a small city. It's a pretty, historical city south of Kuala Lumpur and the people are really, really lovely. From the moment we left the borders of Singapore, though, it really started to feel adventurous. I fi...

Freestyle Ping Pong

Last evening with the group, flew back from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu. Met a drunk Hungarian guy on wir flight who decided he wid befriend wis. He invited wis to go rafting we him....we declined, he wis about 50, kinda fat and stunk of stale and fresh alcohol. Man were we glad to get off that flight! Made it to the Seaside Travellers inn down by the beach where we all jumped into da pool and did a lot of dive bombing by jumping off the rocks into the pool. Mitch was the master dive-bomber cha...

Croc Farm

You will be spared of a looong entry for this day. We went to the Tuaran crocodile farm in the morning. The croc farm should not be in your itinerary if you are in Sabah. Unless you have a fetish for long, scaly reptiles. Still, there are some interesting things to learn about crocodiles: For example, They sell all sorts of croc merchandise: croc meat, croc eggs, croc oil (don't ask me how they made it), croc action figures (made from real crocs) and even croc penises (I wonder what people us...

Tamu, Mansion, Beach

Last day of Sabah We decided to go to the Kinarut Panoramic Mansion after seeing a photo of the place at the museum. It sounded mysterious. I lived near kinarut for 10 years and I've never heard of the place. It was coincidence that we saw the sign leading to the "mansion" while on our way to Taiwanese Restaurant (see Tuesday). And we thought to ourselves: We must go! So in the morning, we went with mother to the shop. Our shop is in Lok-Kawi, and it near Kinarut. From the shop, we went on to...

Going to Bangkok

Time to leave Malaysia and move to Thailand. People lately keep asking me "are you excited?", but I must say "no", I don't feel excited, just happy to be going to Thailand. At least that is the case until I board Thai Airways flight 418. I am greeted with a wai and warm smile. The plane is clean and has a happy feeling to it. The Thai's are gentle, friendly, happy people. It isn't that the Malays or Australians are not, but the Thai's seem more so. I feel good to see Thai people and hear Thai...

No more f$%king rice!

OK so I'm writing from Seaside Traveller's Inn in Kinarut (abbreviated to STI which I find extremely amusing) nursing a bit of a hangover from a big night out in KK last night. We ended up in a bar called Bed where a couple of big boobed, tiny waisted asiana girls wiggled around on stage singing all our faves (rihanna, pcd, tina turner...it was a hoot!) So I climbed the mountain the other day like the adventurer I am, and to prove it I had a certificate printed for me for 2 ringgit (you can't...

Extroadinary and Suprising!

Friday 9th December 2005 Cameron Highlands to Penang The alarm was sounding at 7am as we had to be up and walking into town to catch the bus at 7.30am. We quickly got ready and made our way down the hill of steps to the bus stop. There were another 15 or so people waiting for the bus. After 10 minutes hanging around the driver summoned us to get onto the bus. We got chatting to a few people who were also booked into the 75 Travellers Lodge so we would travel together with them when we arrived...

Gateway to Borneo

... been on the Lonely Planet website last year (something like "Don't go to Eastern Sabah!" - lest you might get kidnapped). Located on the northwestern coast of Sabah, very close to Brunei, Kota Kinabalu, is a fairly decent-sized city - not too much to do in town, but seemingly lots surrounding it - many people climb nearby Mt. Kinabalu during their stay or visit one of the surrounding parks. I stuck to the city ...

Kota Kinabalu

... and look ahead to Sepilok and Oz for us and Vietnam for them - being seasoned experts we were able to fill them in on the highlights and POIs... On returning from the islands we convinced Chris and Lenny they should begin to sample the local food, and what better time than with us to guide them? So and Indian street stall it was! The pictures we took of the look on their faces when the food was served with no cutlery and on banana leaves was ...
