Sadly the first trip has now come to an end.
The end hotel is in a nice peaceful setting, palm trees, on a beach, but someway out of town. My room even came with a cat, it was fast asleep on my balcony chair.

Before catching the flight back to Kota Kinabulu, we visited one of the sites where 2500 prisoners of war were held by the Japanese in WWII in Sandakan primarily to build an airfield. Up early [consistent in any event] for a shower and some wifi. Had a coffee with Trav and Sai, waiting for the 0800 departure of our guide Joanna; she was good fun. The usual morning start of a shower and computer time before brekkie. Wound up leaving just after 0800 for the 20M trip to the Jesselton Point pier, aboard our snorkelling boat by 0850, heading out to Sapi [local word for 'cow'] Island, a place originally used to quarantine cattle.
