By the time we reached the car we were sodden on the bottom half but luckily dry on top and had dry feet (thanks mum Baker for the excellent coats and shoes!!!) The journey back down was easier as Duke of the cloud had cleared and we again encounter a few Deer. We retreated back to the room to dry off and a well earned meal! We enjoyed the evening sad knowing it was our last night on this beautiful ...

... have to slow down to avoid a monkey sitting in the middle of the road! After meeting the monkeys we headed back to our room and the enjoyed another fantastic home cooked meal watching the sunset. ... Unsuikyo, a combination ravine and moss forest a la Princess Mononoke fame. While this option is great on paper, it's a much less done combination, meaning that there no late afternoon buses from Shiratani back to Miyanoura. Meaning my goal would be do finish both hikes within 10 hours.

The day did not quite begin promisingly--it was completely fogged over and raining at the trailhead and continued to rain nonstop for the next three hours. The ...
