    ... downriver towards the entrance. By the time we reached the car we were sodden on the bottom half but luckily dry on top and had dry feet (thanks mum Baker for the excellent coats and shoes!!!) The journey back down was easier as Duke of the cloud had cleared and we again encounter a few Deer. We retreated back to the room to dry off and a well earned meal!     ... have to slow down to avoid a monkey sitting in the middle of the road! After meeting the monkeys we headed back to our room and the enjoyed another fantastic home cooked meal watching the sunset. After dinner there was a big thunderstorm and the rain came down really heavily for most of the night. This was really impressive to experience but meant we didn't get to see the views of the stars the island is often treated to. Fingers crossed for tomorrow ...

    Today we went on the Jomon Sugi trail which took us 7h10mins to complete. It was relatively flat so a pleasant walk. It is a very famous hike as the area is home to the largest cedar tree in the world and possibly the oldest one as well (estimation go from 2000 to 7000 years old). ...

    ... Unsuikyo, a combination ravine and moss forest a la Princess Mononoke fame. While this option is great on paper, it's a much less done combination, meaning that there no late afternoon buses from Shiratani back to Miyanoura. Meaning my goal would be do finish both hikes within 10 hours.
