We were ready to go when the lights went out, there was a power cut which meant the plane had to sit and wait because it couldn't be moved from the apron until the air-bridge was moved and that needs power; we eventually took off an hour late which mean that although we were stamped out of the country by immigration twenty minutes before our visa expired we actually spent two hours illegally on Sri Lankan soil.

After passing through customs in Colombo and collecting my backpack, I exchanged some US dollars and caught a cab to my hotel in Negombo.
