The rooms we saw weren't to impressive but we eventually found a top quality guesthouse that would normally be too much for each person but after calculating that a one bedroom, three bed would work out quite cheaply between the three of us! Caught the 14:20 overnight train to Surat Thani at 14:45, again not too bad a delay, and arrived at our destination around 00:30ish. Travelled 2nd class this time and was a far better experience, comfortable beds with reasonable cheap food delivered to our seats with beer and chatted away to our fellow travellers! One downside is that because we entered the country by rail you only get a 15 day visa, as opposed to the normal 30 day visa when you fly in so we're going to have to exit ...

Next up was Wat Kunaram with a (un)preserved mummified monk (see picture). An awesome sight only slightly spoiled by the addition of ray-bans - apparently the decay of the eyes was just a bit too much for us tourists. Amazingly his hair was still there on his head! Maybe it continued to grow after he died some 30 years ago.

I bought a latte, which was really a double espresso and on requesting the wifi code was presented with the owner's mobile phone, apparently in order to speak to her son; communication in Thailand in never boring!
