Got to Paihia about 3pm. Nice weather and we had a good smooth drive. Found our room at the Sea Spray Suites but the TV didn't work properly so we changed rooms to a better more private room with a table and a nicer more private outdoor area.

I realised that I had left the wine in the fridge of the first room, so I went back to get …

Travels in New Zealand

Nearly finished our few days in NZ now. We've been up to the far north, along ninety mile beach to Cape Reinga, following which we travelled down to the Bay of Islands down one of the most beautiful coastal roads we've ever experienced (on a lovely day too). Yesterday we took a trip out into the bay and watched lots of bottle nose dolphins having a …

Craig drove 1 hour south to Paihia or the main town in the Bay of Islands. We arrived with the lunch we didnt eat at 90 mile beach and stopped at a picnic table where we were quickly engulfed by an angry, hungry group of seagulls that weren't afraid of getting to close to get a bit of food. Conor wasn't happy so he went and sat in the car, some …

To Swim or not to Swim?

GR: For our first big adventure in New Zealand we decided to go it alone and hire a campervan to explore the Northland. After much faffing and hanging around, we picked up Doris, who was to be our ride for the next week. Because of our late start, we didn't ...

Kauri trees grow in the northern part of NZ and are very tall with branches beginning high up the trunk. They were therefore ideal for making into the hulls of canoes. The largest kauri tree, although we did not see it, is some 16 metres in girth ...

TV didn't work in our first room, so we swapped rooms to a better, more private room. The internet connection wasn't very good and we had to call them to come and fix it. Once everything was working though, it was all good. Nice touch to have some fudge waiting for us with a welcome note in the rooms.
