San Carlos and home

... was mentioned in one of our cruising guides as a great shelling beach and it did not disappoint. The anchorage was a bit exposed for the southerly wind so we decided to move on. We then stopped at Isla San Marcos off Santa Rosalia where we watched the whales cruising through the pass as the sun set. We had a nice quiet night there, then had a late start over to Santa Rosalia. Santa Rosalia was our last stop on the Baja California coast, before we headed ...

Finally! Time to go

... but as luck would haver it a new line o[opened up and we were practical at the front. Once again our luck holds up as we both push that button and get the green light (no inspections). Now it was down the hall and out past the many time share sales people and out to catch out ride. I really don't know what all the fuss is about the timeshare salespeople. They stood behind counters(yes they called out) and didn't come to you rather ...

... board and gesturing, so its getting a little better. Also, it's nice to be learning about all of the different groups and the pyramids and then actually going to see them. I'm also in a cooking class and Monday had some yummy food. But, I think I might have to start eating some meat again, like chicken, because it is a lot harder to find vegetarian food than I thought and I don't want to special order everything here. The dorm food always has some ...

In San Carlos and Heading Home

... They were a stone's throw from Blue Pteron where Dee and I were spending the morning painting watercolour landscapes from the cockpit. I heard the fellow ask his buddy if he wanted one of the enormous tuna he had lying in his dinghy and so Dee and I leaned out to behold these monster fish and his buddy said 'no, but you can give it to them 'cause they look like they'd want one.' And we did! (Since there are two Pauls in this story I'll identify them by ...

Festival Cultural en la Mariposa Monarca

This evening I attended one of the month-long events of the Festival Cultural en la Mariposa Monarca. The monarchs are a big deal in this state of Mexico. Many hotels and businesses have the monarch namesake. The evening was entertaining with cultural dances and singing. The Plaza was filled with families, clowns, balloons, and homemade icecream. The stage lights kept blowing a fuse.....doesn`t that sound familiar?

... tiny bus between these two giants. The rich folks were really nice to us and offered to pick up supplies when they went to town. We sat on the beach, picked up some local fresh fish (the fisherman said it was "salmon" but we have never eaten white salmon), watched the sunset and sat in the park's hot tub. Not a bad way to spend your last day in Mexico.

Arriving in San Carlos

... ve been to fly to Guaymas, which is the closest city to San Carlos. Since then we've been busy getting the boat ready to spend the winter sailing. Our route is simple; follow the mainland of Mexico south till the middle of winter and then decide whether we'd rather keep heading south or turn around and head back up to San Carlos and store the boat here for the summer. Our first ...

No Soy Tourista, I am a Traveler.

... the side of the road as I sat Indian style and fished through my bag for gum and water as we chatted and laughed at ourselves. It was a satisfying day of travel, friendship, stories and good food. This was the state I was in when Huitzilopochtli arrived, on Mexican time, at 8:45pm to take me to his grandfather's house for a family reunion. Frank wherever you are. I hope that the sun is to your face, the rain to your back and that you are welcomed once again in Vera Cruz by the goats. To be continued...

Mexico City and Puebla

... much! I have a mom, dad, and 3 sisters. The sisters are all in their late 20s, early 30s. One of the sisters is married and has a baby boy who is going to be 1 year old July 16. I have my own room, and I also have complete access to anything in their house. Puebla is way cleaner than Mexico city, and it is the 4th largest city in Mexico, with probably about 5 million people. After I arrived, we took my things upstairs to my room, then they took me to the mall ...
